and I got to this part:

The average winter temperature in Anchorage is 26 degrees -- more than twice as warm as the 10-degree average for the Minnesota city always trying to promote its high quality of life. Right. If you’re a polar bear.

On the other hand, if you compare the forecast for Anchorage (highs in the 5-25 degree range) versus Minneapolis (highs in the 30 to 45 degree range) for the next week, I’d sure rather spend my Thanksgiving in the good ole contiguous U.S. than in the Last Frontier...

AND I WAS LIKE THE FUCK THAT'S TOTALLY NOT RIGHT ASSHOLE. So I looked it up and did the calculations, and posted this comment:

"Where are you getting your data on average temperatures in Minneapolis and Anchorage? According to NOAA (http://cdo.ncdc.noaa.gov/climatenormals/clim20/mn/... and http://cdo.ncdc.noaa.gov/climatenormals/clim20/ak/... your assertion that "The average winter temperature in Anchorage is 26 degrees -- more than twice as warm as the 10-degree average for [Minneapolis]" doesn't line up.

Based on data collected by NOAA 1971-2000, the average low Dec 1-Feb 28 in Minneapolis was 9 degrees, compared to 10.8. Likewise, the average highs in the same period are very similar, at 25.9 in Minneapolis and 23.9 in Anchorage. Anchorage actually has a much longer "winter" than Minneapolis-- if we look at the same data, but from Nov 1-March 31, we see that Minneapolis is looking at 10.36 and 32.56, whereas Anchorage averages 13.3 and 26.6.

I guess it's pretty cool that a publication like the Washington Post is okay with publishing blatantly false information. Gotta love that East Coast elitism slandering the rest of the county."
