seriously instead of talking about elsewhere we should just have a thread for this
SO, ANIMU
WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY WATCHING?
WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR FAVORITES?
ANYTHING ELSE?
TALK ABOUT ANIMU AND MANGO IN GENERAL.
I just finished watching the OVA special that goes along with the first season of Darker than Black, and it was somewhat lolsome but, like most specials, nothing too special, ironically. I gave it a 6/10 on MAL, compared to the main series' 8/10. The best part of it was the black dude at the very end. The cat mating season gag was kinda overplayed and I did not like the abundance of pink-haired-detective-girl (i hate her grrr). But it was decent.
I am also currently watching the Haruhi-chan miniseries. 9 episodes in so far. I lol'd so hard at Koizumi's yaoi face when Kyon said "I love you." It was adorable. There's just tons of fucking hilarious moments in this little series. I love it so far.

she is only one of several disgustingly huge-chested women in it
the show (only two OVAs) is comprised of absolutely nothing but shitty fanservice and giant tit fetishism. there is no plot. the character design is hideous. the music is laughably bad. everything about it is a disaster, lol.
Seikon no Qwaser could probably top that disgustingness. There are random bit titted anime chicks that are only around so the guy can drink their breast milk that they produce without even being preggo so he can gain super powers akudood;

I own one volume of Hetalia, a haruhi box with a single dvd in it, Elfen Lied and like the first half of Gantz. That is as far as my anime related collection goes n_u
what's Hetalia like, anyway? is it like a slice of life with the countries portrayed as characters? i assume it's about more than just the Axis Powers too.

It is a historical comedy basically. The episodes are like 5 minutes each and involve the countries portrayed as characters (yes way more than just the axis powers.) doing various things. It is hard to explain simply cause I am bad at describing things.... but yea it is pretty funny and entertaining.

I started and stopped many times, should watch it all the way through.
Finished berserk: god so fucking good, sucks that it ends like that, forces you to read the manga because that story is so good. Marathoned it in 2 nights.
Also watched the entirety of yuyu hakusho. Kinda lost some steam near the end of the final act (hurr another tournament and like 3 second fights), but I enjoyed it overall.
Watching now: darker than black, dem contRactors, 5 episodes in I like it. I like the small 2 episode arc format.
Last downloaded: Baccano!, wolf's rain, vampire knight and Black Cat.
Watched a bit of Baccano, much darker than I expected.

Death note is nothing special? Wow understatement of the year. Death note is one of the greatest series I have ever seen. So many plot twists a genuinely interesting story a new take on the typical "cat and mouse" detective story interwoven with an imaginative supernatural mythos.
You'll laugh, you'll cry, be on the edge of your seat the entire time, you will want to keep watching. Death note builds suspense and tension like no other, it does not disappoint. It's the essential anime everyone should watch, I find it hard not to recommend it.

So good indeed. I don't think I've ever met a single person who's seen Bebop and disliked it.
everyone seems so excited about Mahou Shoujou Madoka Magica. i guess it's some sort of GRIMDARK deconstruction of a magical girl anime. i hear the art style is really unique. Shaft did it - that's a good sign.

I've been following it and like it. The art style only gets extremely unusual in the parts where they fight witches; those backgrounds seem more like some creepy animated scrapbook-ish style than anime.

it's not all bad. Just maybe two or three characters have bad dubs in it
i prefer Trigun dubbed because Vash's Japanese voice is simply boring...in fact all the voice acting is a bit stale compared to the energy of the dub.
unfortunately, the dub has its problems too, perhaps most notably the character Millie...but she sounds ridiculous in the original, too.
Trigun's difficulty is its acting, no matter which version you go with. once you get past that, it's a fucking great show.
btw i watched gungrave dubbed and that might be one of the reasons i didn't like it that much lol
...actually, maybe not; it might have been the dialogue that was really stupid
one time a character said basically the same thing three times just using different words ("wow, this is the house she grew up in!", "she really lived here, in this house...", "this is where my mom grew up!") and that really fucking annoyed me since it happened so much, so i switched over to the sub for a second AND PRETTY MUCH EXACTLY THE SAME THING HAPPENED akudood;
not only that but for some fucking reason the script REALLY loves characters saying each other's full names ALL. THE. FUCKING. TIME. you will hear the name "brandon heat" AT LEAST 10 times per episode and it gets really fucking annoying after a while
but whatever
also mika's voice is annoying in the dub
Hanbun no Tsuki ga Noboru Sora is good.
Watching Wolf's Rain
It's pretty good so far
i started ghost in the shell: stand alone complex
I just watched The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya.

really, you liked it that much? i'm glad. n_n
the only thing wrong with it is that it's maybe a little bit too long...3 hours is a bit much. a half hour less would have been nice. but i can't think of what to take out, because really, the whole movie is just great.
started Spice and Wolf and Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica
i'm much more interested in the latter right now so i think i'll focus on that instead of the former, but spice and wolf seems nice too
still gotta get back to gurren lagann lol

i didn't want it to end.......i didn't feel bored for one second......
also i remember you saying it was "confusing", and besides a couple of moments that left you wondering, it really wasn't at all
probably helped that i had seen the second season first ;)
but omg giggle;

I watch:
PSG
.Hack//Sign and .Hack//Legend of the Twilight
Yumekui Merry
Devil May Cry
This is A Zombie
Soul Eater
Bleach (used to smithicide;)
um everyone is obligated to watch cowboy bebop so if you haven't seen that, you have to
same goes for trigun
yes Gurren Lagann is good, Nyerp liked it a lot and he's seen it all. i've seen only the first 7 episodes but i like it thus far.
Trigun takes place on a desert planet where the last remnants of human life are stranded. it is about a "legendary gunman," Vash the Stampede, who is considered an extremely dangerous outlaw and has a giant bounty on his head, only it turns out he's actually about the nicest person you can imagine, though it is certainly true that he may be the greatest gunman that's ever lived. he tends to find trouble wherever he goes, and has a mysterious past and stuff. it's a great mix of action and comedy. it's just a very fun show all around. watch it dubbed, btw.
watch bebop dubbed too.

nah. there are quite a few animes with good dubs. cowboy bebop's may be the best dub ever.

I recently watched and liked an anime called "ef - A Tale of Memories". It's very pretty and has sweet characters/development cjlubdoods;
Besides that, some of my favorite anime have been:
Angel Beats
Clannad (+After Story)
Kyouran Kazoku Nikki
Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha: The Movie
Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica (aka Puella Magi)
Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
Ouran High School Host Club

I exclusively watch subs, but Kaz and others here seem to like dubs.
i only like a few animes dubbed
cowboy bebop
trigun
beck
ghost in the shell s.a.c
evangelion (though this is not that great of one)
and then of course most of the best anime films are also great dubbed, especially miyazaki ones, what with the high budgets and all
do not watch ponyo dubbed
i finished meduka meguca
watched my neighbor totoro and four episodes of clannad: after story last night n_n
outlaw star is awesome thumbup;
also welcome to the nhk should arrive tomorrow bassir;

first episode impressions of Bakemonogatari: this shit is weird, but interesting. i honestly don't understand what's going on at all yet, lol. but it's interesting, as i said...and absolutely beautiful to look at. shaft is such a great studio.
I started watching it the season it released, I was kinda hyped for it.
Then
I dropped it after the 3rd episode, it does look nice, sounds amazing, but that story is so meh.

the "story" is that Araragi meets possessed/haunted/supernatural-in-some-way girls and tries to help them, meanwhile he talks a lot with them in the weirdest ways and gets verbally abused by Senjougahara (sp?)
if you wanted an anime that focused on story you looked in the wrong place - that's not what this anime is really all about
if anything i love it for the bizarre yet never dull conversations and relations between Araragi and the other characters

trust me bro there is way better stuff out there than death note. but uh, your criteria is pretty vague. if you want stuff that's kinda supernatural and dark and weird like death note (but less shounen), you could go with like...paranoia agent maybe.
in fact, you know what? just watch paranoia agent. be gone with you.
Why would you not recommend it, when there is MUCH MUCH worse than Death Note, especially since Death Note is one of the best, even greater for entry level fans of anime, there's not a ton of visual rhetoric but you can go deeper on a 2nd or 3rd viewing, it's definitely worth more than 1 look.

Death Note's dub is better than it's original Japanese voices, and Yu Yu Hakusho's dub is fantastic. And FullMetal Alchemist dub is cool.
And Big O should ONLY be watched in dub, since it's so heavily western influenced and the VAs are phenomenal.
I haven't watched a lot of anime in the past months, kinda quit in late 2010. Watched a bit of Bleach lately (tried to rewatch) but eventually lost interest again. doodhuh;
of all anime to try to watch why would you try bleach

so you'd rather have annoying no-talent english voice actors paid with peanuts by greedy localization companies? 5thgrade;
I think part of the not liking the dub thing just depends on wether you see the dub or sub first. Because whichever voices you hear first sort of get imprinted. Though this ain't true all the time.

Yep, I watched Death Note in subs completely as it was trickling out before watching the dub when it came out in the US, still prefer the dub.
Also anime recommendation:
I heard someone wanted something sports related so I'd go for Hajime No Ippo (Fighting Spirit), pretty awesome.

i think that's only true for me with Evangelion, because even though the sub is probably technically "better," i always watch it dubbed just because...well, i just do because i always have.
i find it harder to watch the dub of a show that is really japanese or has a lot to do with japanese culture

Also, I watched this movie called Summer Wars. It was ok. About some guy who accidentally unleashes a virus on the huge virtual world that japan uses to do stuff. Yep. Wasn't bad, probably won't watch it again though.
i've kinda been wanting to see Summer Wars simply because it's by the guy who made Girl Who Leapt Through Time

I haven't seen that one. My girlfriend saw it because there is some sort of connection to the people who did it and that cat movie that Miyazaki did or whatever. I kind of want to see it, but I wasn't too impressed with Summer Wars so I don't know what to do.
Summer Wars reminds me of the Digimon movie and I liked it well enough.

so yeah Nadia is actually pretty great so far
nothing particularly original or special about it, just quality classic animu in general

the small sections of animation and lines cut out of the anime in episode 09 were fine...but the amount of cuts due to budget restraints in episode 10 is HORRENDOUS

Akagi - an anime about Mahjong and the japanese mafia underworld
who knew an anime focusing on mahjong could be so intense but it is, holy shit. Half the time idk what's going on but there's something about it.
Highly Recommend it if you liked Hikaru No Go
I would say same thing for Yu Gi Oh to an extent, game based anime.
