So its my birthday today, and to celebrate, me and five of my bros hit the bong at about 2 AM this morning. My first bro left immediately after we hit the bong, which is cool since he didn't mooch off my shit so whatever. Then me and my 4 other compadres played Smash Bros and watched TV and giggled and shit. Then my other friend said she had to go home and I was like word up, and it was like 4:10 at this point. So drives home, and we decide its time for some fucking IHOP. So we go there, get some tasty pancakes and enjoy them, then go back to my place at about 5:20. We chill for a little bit more and then I'm like "DAMN IM FUCKING TIRED" so we all lay down. Just me, my bff, and my other bro who I work with who is almost 17. So we're all laying down, and my not bff bro says he has to be home at 8. I'm like "shit dude, you might want to just go home now, its already 6, you gonna be able to wake up in 2 hours?" He was like "yeah maybe, i dunno". Then we sat in silence for a good 10 minutes, and he goes "Yeah, dude I'm just gonna go it'll be easier". So I ask him if he's sure he's good to drive like 20 times, since he's not a veteran toker, but I want to look out for my main man, and he was like yeah I'm gravy. So I walk him to the door, tell him to be safe and take it easy, and off he goes. Then I proceed to FUCKIN SLEEP.
So I get woken up by a phone call today from the guy who left first. He was like "Dude what time did DAT KID leave?" And I was like "Uh like 6, why?". And he was like "Dude he hit a tree, his car (dad's car actually) is totaled dude why'd you let him leave". So i was like "R u srs". And he's like "Fuckin' yeah dude, he fell asleep at the wheel." So I'm like fuck fuck fuck and hang up and text his sister's BFF which is the girl who was there who left before we went to ihop and i was like did DAT KID really get in a car wreck? And she was like yeah. Then DAT KID's sister, who i tried to bang once, starts fucking texting me and trying to blame the whole fucking thing on me, and fucking i don't want the police to come and ahhhhhhhh :(
tl;dr My friend hit the bong, 4 hours later, drove home, and wrecked his Dad's car. He fell asleep at the wheel, and that's what he told his parents he did; nothing about the marijuana. He's apparently fine, though the car is fucked. Should I be worried that I'm in possession of drugs right now? Should I be worried that somehow this shit is my fault? I mean he said he was good, and he was good at IHOP, so that's on him then, right?
you shouldn't have let him drive doodthing;

this is weed not alcohol. i would have been more worried if he took allergy medicine.
idk it's his fault
Friends don't let friends drive drunk (high). But yeah that sucks but you'll probably be fine unless your friend says that you made him leave or something.
i'm pretty sure the lack of sleep at 6 in the morning is more of a contributing factor than the marijuana

you're never too high to drive though. like friend 1 left directly after toking. friend 2 left while she was high as fuck still. I drove to ihop still buzzing. And he left 4 hours later. When we all were pretty much sober. Like I said, he fell asleep at the wheel, which happens when you're tired. If he was too tired to drive he should have not drove. I asked him if he was good, and he said he was so I mean what the hell, i'm not going to take his keys.

Yeah I think you're right then. Tell his sister to stop being such a bitch.
Sucks. You probably shouldn't have let him go, but what you gonna do?
If the police weren't involved (other than him filing an accident report after the fact) you should be fine. The only way I could see you getting in trouble for anything is if he was charged with something related to the crash. Even then, probably not.
Should have drove him yourself if he wasn't experienced. nothing you can do right now if he wasn't questioned or anything I wouldn't be freaking out that you're "responsible" because you had the weed or anything.
It's his own damn fault. You looked out for your bro and he was all "LOL I'M GOOD." so you shouldn't have any part of the blame. If he was too tired, he should've said so and the whole thing wouldn't have happened.
Well if you're gonna be worried, be worried that you left a detailed confession online.
Well if he blames marijuana for his incident, then yeah you should be worried... But since that would probably only put him further into the hole, I think you're going to be fine
it's not your fault, it's not the marijuana's fault, driving after missing 1 night of sleep will definitely have way more consequences (on average) than being high (because being high on marijuana does not cause functional impairment, I think it actually helps driving concentration...)
ok so i actually texted him finally, and he's like "yeah I don't blame you at all, i wasn't even stoned anymore, i was just really tired. also ihop was really fucking tasty dude". so yeah, we're good i guess. so uh, thread closed?

Agreed, the only issue is navigating but that's not a safety concern
(I'm not posting because I jump at the chance to talk about drugs, I really think people need to be aware of this.)
Driving under the influence of any substance is fucking stupid, and there's no real convincing argument to say otherwise. I have no patience for friends who try to drive drunk or high and I certainly dont do it myself. For the most part, it's a non issue with people I know.
From my own personal standpoint, I certainly wouldn't trust myself driving high.

I simply have never experienced a negative consequence from my own or a friend's decision to drive high. There is the potential to make errors like turning onto the wrong side of streets and shit, but if you know how to drive, it's so intuitive that basically no amount of non-dissociative substance (weed, x, coke...) could cause me to drive unsafely, as long as you are aware you're driving and devoting attention to it. (You still know what's real and how traffic works when you're high.)
Accidents I've nearly gotten in while reading/writing a text while driving: 25-30+ (not hair's-breadth situations, just 'oh good thing I looked up when I did and not .25 seconds later')
Accidents I've nearly gotten playing with the radio console: 10-20
Accidents I've nearly gotten in while sleep deprived: like every winter morning nearly rear-ending someone in traffic from not noticing they stopped
Accidents I've nearly gotten in while high, or on anything for that matter: 0.
I'm not in any way assuring everyone they can drive high. If you feel don't feel confident in your driving, then don't.
I fucking drove 10 miles through urban minneapolis in the height of a MUSHROOM TRIP, freeways and everything. It was the most in-tune with the machine I've ever been, I drove without a single incident and people with me confirmed I wasn't just trippin
you can legally be tipsy and drive for fuck's sake. I'd rather drive after smoking a bong every hour for 24 hours than after a few shots.

That's beside the point though. Experiences differ and people have or have developed tolerances and ways to work around it. You're obviously one of the few then.
Fine. Wonderful.
I'd feel comfortable saying, and this is also from experience, that
most people aren't like that. I've seen people wrap their cars around trees because they couldn't wait the few hours until they sobered up.

Certainly people are all different, but to counter you, the extensive circle of people I get high (and drive around) with contains only a couple people who don't like to drive high, and it's just because they're shitty drivers normally. Sure there can be harmless inconsequential mistakes like waiting at a stop sign with no one around, but I've
never felt someone was 'too high too drive' from weed. I think a majority of people could handle themselves. Think of all the other, more complex things you can do/like to do while high. Driving a car is like using a pencil.

I'm pretty much on the same record as Snorkel. If anything I'm much much more careful when I high drive. The music is down, everyone in the car is quiet, I keep no more than 5 miles above the speed limit. I've driven maybe 50-60 times while blazin' and I haven't come close to an accident.
When I sober drive, I'd say I come close to rear-ending/ killing myself at least once a week.
Well this thread is making me feel much better as a driver
I don't really see anything wrong with high driving... it does make you more cautious... but driving on something which produces visuals is not a good idea
I've come to realise that a lot of Boyagers suck at driving thanks to this thread. goodjob;
