People like JMV and PQQU seem to know everything and it boggles my mind.
Seriously i don't get it wariodood;
jmv just knows about politics and stuff he reads on reddit
i mean just talk about general psychology and medicine(maybe philosophy but I never really talked about that with him) to him and he'll be like "durr wat"
also ppq has two brains
I read a lot of books and eat my vegetables!
Um, I know a lot about academic related things because I'm in a very intense academic program, I know a lot about music because that's my main hobby, I know a lot about human rights and politics because I have a personal stake in that, and I know a lot about video games because I was very secluded for a very long time.
It may seem big, but that's actually a pretty limited area. Just as in music: I can talk about any genre with a bit of knowledge and background, and I can talk about instruments on a very superficial level, but beyond that I have a pretty pathetic layer of depth.
pqqu does know everything, doesn't she?
jmv is also a hell of a lot more knowledgeable than i am, but mostly in areas i don't care about

The closest I've ever gotten into the Glitch area of things has been the work Venetian Snares has done. It's symphonic in scope at some points, and crazy in other points, but I don't know if Glitch really fits him. IDM, really. He's given me pathways into a lot of artists Like Stunt Rock or Jere, but not any deeper into the real Glitch stuff.

Yes. It's amazing at how much differently people react to people with confidence, like there's a girl in one of the other groups who just oozes confidence when she speaks, I wish I could be like that. saddood;

The guy asked me "So, if you were going on a spaceship out into nowhere and you had to bring 5 albums with you, which would they be?" I first said Arcade Fire's Funeral, half for the musicianship and half for the emotional connection/memories. I was struggling with the next one, I realized I needed to pick a Radiohead album, and I said: "In Rainbows. Wait! No...Hail to the Thief." and he was like lolwut
And then we got into a really long dicussion about musicianship and depth, about sound and meaning. I made the case that although In Rainbows is a more entertaining, accessible, and well-crafted album, Hail to the Thief has these wildly intense layers of depth and vision to it. He pulled out his iPod to listen to 2 + 2 = 5 while I went on about the changes of style in that song, and what they represent. I went deeper into the thematic concerns and sort of...machinic intensity. You used the phrase "complex beast," which I used.
I then sent a thankyou letter that was, at his request, a list of bands and descriptions he should get into. In short, best interview ever. Thanks to you.

That's amazing. I'm just glad you're thinking deeply about the music you like, because that's one of the greatest things someone can do.
Out of curiosity, what other three albums did you pick?

One of my favorite things to do is write stream of consciousness stuff to new music. I ruin a lot of stuff I used to like by saying "Well WHY IN THE WORLD DO I LIKE [Fatboy Slim or any other childhood relics] when THERE'S THIS [something]". But I've gotten much more intense experiences out of the music by really looking at it closely.
He was rather ADD, so he moved on. I have no clue what I'd put, I'd need to look at all the albums I have. In a pinch, Islands' "Return to the Sea" would probably make it on there.
