What animu have you tried recently?
As some of you already know, I watched all of BECK: Mongolian Chop Squad recently. It's fucking great. I've also started watching Love Hina (long overdue) and Shakugan no Shana. And just last night I decided to give Gantz a try since it seems to be such a hotly debated and mildly controversial anime.
I can't really say I like Love Hina a whole lot yet, but maybe that's just because the fact that I've seen other animes that were inspired by it...so everything seems rehashed, you know? The ecchi moments, girls jumping to conclusions and beating the living shit out of an accidental peeping tom, etc.
Shakugan no Shana is...interesting. Can't say much yet. Only watched two episodes so far. It seems extremely dark for being so cute on the surface.
Gantz...whoa. Mindfuck. Hard to follow, fragmented, completely perverted in all meanings of the word. Lots of nudity, over-the-top gore, etc. The entire premise is unoriginal and pretentious, much like the character it revolves around, some selfish prick who doesn't give two shits about anyone else. But for some reason I find myself liking it somewhat. Some parts are terribly boring and seemingly irrelevant, and I'm not sure I appreciate hearing everyone's thoughts so often. Also, a warning: this anime is extremely depressing and depraved. It constantly plays on the idea that humans are, at the core, despicable beings who'd rather see someone die than help them, at first impulse.
i havent tried anything lately but I have been watching a lot of Case closed/ Detective Conan.
None girl;
I need to watch Beck. befuddlement

It's one of the best stories about music I've seen in a long time. And the music is actually pretty damn good too. Watch the dub, because there's a lot of English even in the original Japanese version, but the problem is that the English they try to speak is awful. Plus, they sing in English, and since the music is there so often, it makes more sense to hear it in good English rather than Engrish. One of the best dubs ever.
What I have recently been watching:
MS Gundam: 08th Team- finished it within 2 days(the weekend), only about 24 episodes, was pretty good, I remembered seeing it on TV a long time ago and I never really got into it nor finished it until recently. It seemed like a really westernized Gundam (Vietnam war + Gundam what the hell?) but some how it works, and it works well.
Hellsing Ultimate OVAs- amazing, this is the true way to watch a Hellsing anime, the original series was alright, but for some reason it seemed to stretch, where as the little hour to hour and a half Hellsing OVAs were straight to the point and full of blood and gore, how I like it.
Boogiepop Phantom- cool concept, but the odd stories and how they are not connected is a little weird. It's alright, but I'm only half way into the series so maybe it will get better, but right now it's decent.
Gundam 00- only watched the first two episodes of the first season, pretty cool, I really want to finish it but I've been busy with other things
Clannad- from watching the first episode, it looks alright, not sure if I want to finish it though
Gurren Lagann- I have been watching the dub on Sci-Fi and it is pretty good, probably my favorite of the anime I have listed in this post
GANTZ-I completely agree with your opinions, a really cool, but dark, anime
Also stuff I have but have not watched yet/stopped watching for a while: Gundam Wing and Welcome to the NHK(I really need to finish this)

I have been meaning to watch Beck, now I really want to see it.
Haven't watched any anime recently but I feel like watching FLCL again
I watched Ouran Host Club which was awesome, but it had some gay parts.
Then I started Monster which is FUCKING AWESOME, you should check it out but it takes about 10 episodes to get into.
Then the regulars
Bleach
Death Note
and Naruto, but I don't watch Naruto anymore.
http://myanimelist.net/animelist/Blaze-San <-There you go.
Tales of the Abyss is a remake of a game, and in that respect, it's very good so far, though its only 3 episodes in.
Kyouran kazoku Nikki is.... like, really random. Think Haruhi Suzumiya, but ablut 3/4ths as awesome (being honest) and a bit more characters overall. Its fun one moment and serious the next, and it's well intertwined, though I've heard the serious/fun switches can be a bit jarring, I haven't noticed it.
DBZ

what's wrong with DBZ?
It's kinda shitty. doodthing;
Dragonball was far superior but neither of them are anywhere near my favorites, still.
Uh...watched Black Lagoon and Higurashi a while ago, but I haven't gotten around to seeing anything else recently. I kind of feel like popping in Serial Experiments Lain or Outlaw Star...I would watch Samurai Champloo, but my laptop can't handle matroska files and I don't feel like retorrenting.
Azumanga Daioh. It's pretty good, especially compared to the other stuff I've seen.

That was the first real anime I've watched, and it's the only anime that all the weaboos I know at school have watched. Excellent comedy.

Yeah, I was pleasantly surprised. All the other anime comedies I'd watched were pretty crappy, so I wasn't expecting much. It turned out to actually be pretty funny, not to mention really well done. I don't think any of the weeaboos at my school have watched it though, I guess they're too busy watching dreck like Naruto.

I have a friend who regurally stays up till 3 in the morning every day of the week...he spent that time watching Code Geass as it came out. He actually watched the raw the second it came out :|

It's really really weird.
There's also a ton of things you don't catch until multiple views.
But stick through it, it really picks up the pace at episode 4.
There's only 6 episodes by the way.
BECK MONGOLIAN CHOP SQUAD

There's a boxset for about $62. That's not too bad of a price for the whole series.
Or you can buy separate DVDs...6 of them I think. That would actually be more expensive than just buying the whole boxset, I believe.

Both of NGE's endings sucked, the original series ending and the movie ending.
I wish I could like NGE like other people, but it just really is confusing as hell.
Also, anyone seen Bartender?

I liked both endings, although I think "The End of Evangelion" did it a lot more justice, because it actually did what was supposed to happen: the Human Instrumentality Project and the Third Impact.
The show and especially The End of Eva are confusing, yeah, at first. But it's actually a pretty simple concept if you just break it down.
To put it all together, the entire point of the the Eva was to re-create God and to allow all of mankind to become one, in a sea of LCL.
Probably something on [Adult Swim].
Adult Swim needs to bring back Lupin III. :'(

It's a little slow to really pick up the pace, and the animation is lazy at some points (yet outstanding at other points, what's with that?), but other than those picky little issues I still think it's an amazing anime.

I really like the 3-D effects they use when someone's playing, though. befuddlement

i liked that part well enough but when he sings it on stage is a hell of a lot cooler
are you watching the dub? the songs are awful in the sub.

You should watch Cowboy Bebop first out of those three. I think FLCL will just confuse you a lot and turn you off to other stuff if you watch it first.

I only saw Cowboy Bebop once but it was rad.

Ever since stage 9 (divx powered HD videos, amazing quality) closed down a while back you have nothing left but youtube-quality blurs.
Just download it, then delete when you finish, it will not take up that much space while it's there, and there is nothing to worry about if you marathon straight through it.
Or you can even preserve the series on DVDs (I recently did this to GANTZ and a few other series) and watch them whenever you want.
I just finished Beck.
A bit cheesy, but it was beautiful. :(

Yeah I have to admit a lot of parts were pretty cheesy, but it was overall a really good insight into a lot of aspects of music. I liked all the subtle (and some not-so-subtle) references to real bands, too.
I was sort of weirded out by the ending, because I was so sure it was going to end with the breaking up of the band and nothing afterward. It almost seemed like they were trying way too hard to give us a happy ending.

Nah, I don't really bother with manga.
currently watching the FMA movie because i forgot it existed until now
I read the Soul Eater manga and it was decent so now I'm going to try the anime out of boredom.
So ya I started the Beck manga.
Its pretty much following the anime exactly so far, but the art is way different. Like seriously, Koyuki seems like more of a socially retarded and creepy guy instead of just a shy kid, all because of the art. ;_;
Also the parts where they're playing music is kinda weird since there's no actual music.

lol i can't even imagine enjoying the manga without the music
the music is half of what made the anime good
so ya still reading the manga
The manga seems to go way way way past where the anime ended. I'm on like, chapter 25 and I'm already almost done with the Greatful Sound part. And there's almost 100 chapters. baddood;
