Hold control and click the divider between the trash side and applications side. Then turn off hiding.
Command+Option+D
Or that.
If you're a Communist.
I would try swearing loudly and shaking the computer.

JIMV YOU BREAK EVERYTHING baddood;
hi zayna
when your dock locks up, enter killall Dock into the terminal
if you want it to disappear or reappear, do what jimmy said
Orrrr you can open the Activity Monitor and quit/restart it from there.
No dirty, stinky terminal needed.

Keeping your Terminal in your dock and entering that simple command is faster and easier than going to Activity Monitor and searching around for your dock.
so whats yr point?
idk........ I thought one of the points of using a Mac was that you didn't have to know what was going on, or have to learn terminal commands.
And since it's so much faster, why don't we just scrap GUI's all together and go back to command lines. WOULDN'T THAT BE SO AWESOMELY COOL?
I use a hotkey to launch terminal.

Well damn. At least I understood part of that. I was thinking about getting a Mac. Now I don't know.
Don't listen to the turds.
I refuse to use or learn terminal commands and I've never had a problem doing or undoing anything.
Anyway, the real reason to use a Mac is because its pretty! ^____________________^

just entering a short one-line command is easier than searching around a list of processes
so shut up

Not if you know the process you're looking for.
It's not hard to find something named dock in an alphabetical list. baddood;
