But yeah, Disraeli Gears isn't close to the amazingness of Wheels of Fire.

Yes, I am. What else would I have to judge them by, they are a band. How about you don't judge me, alright? Or if you insist on doing so can you actually have some basis behind it?
I think that they are an okay band, not the best band ever as seems to be a popular belief. I think this because to me their music does not seem to be anything special... at all and especially lyrically. It does absolutely nothing for me.

I know what you mean. Personally, I'm on the fence. They perform well as a band and they're probably good songwriters, but some of their songs are are just plain stupid (Helter Skelter, ugh) and their lyrics are fairly poor. Some days I like them, some days I don't.
It's funny that you mention "Helter Skelter" because oh gosh, I agree with you it's a terrible song BUT it's not nearly as bad when Siouxsie and the Banshees do it (in my opinion). I didn't even think much on that, so I have to imagine it's more than just the Beatles lyrically that puts me off. The way they perform their songs too just doesn't appeal to me.

I don't know, I like the Banshees' version a little better because I hate Paul McCartney's singing on the original. But yeah, their performances leave a lot to be desired. It's probably because they were basically a bland early 60s rock n' roll band that discovered acid.
Ok, here's something that goes severely against yah all's opinions: HELTER SKELTER FUCKING RULES.

Helter Skelter makes me wish Paul was shot instead of John. Here's the kicker: he wrote it because he wanted to make a louder song than I Can See For Miles by The Who.

Maybe it's because the Beatles aren't very good at making loud songs. They can still rock, like on Taxman, but noisy, bawlsy rawk-n-rawl just ain't their thing.

It's really cool for the first few seconds with George Harrison playing that shit-hot lick and McCartney singing, but then the rest of the band comes in and it's like they're playing a completely different song that happens to be in the same key and of the same tempo.

Only of those bands I really care much for is Crass, different punk tastes I guess. I've always preferred bands like Black Flag and the Sex Pistols, I guess you could call those among the most popular bands in the genre.

Depends on what 'hard rock' refers to.
Black Flag is a good band and I do like a lot of new punk but I just don't respect the Sex Pistols whatsoever.
I also really don't like the crowd that generally likes the Sex Pistols. Yeah, ya like punk but do you know what it means? Punk is so much more than a genre of music and that's why I don't have respect for a lot of "punk" bands.

If you're a Sex Pistols fan, punk means dying your hair with Kool Aid and putting spiking it with super glue while wearing a leather jacket covered in patches displaying the logos of bands you don't listen to.
I agree with you. I don't like/respect the Sex Pistols and what they stand up for.
I love/respect Crass and what they stand up for.
A lot of Sex Pistol fans are just "posers". There's plenty of dipshits who know the Sex Pistols and the Ramones, but do they listen to bands like the Circle Jerks?
Also, the Sex Pistols do deserve some respect. A lot of bands wouldn't be playing punk if it weren't for the Sex Pistols, and the style wouldn't've got much recognition. They left a big impact to music of the future.
It's sort of like Elvis. They didn't create punk and weren't the best band to play it. But they gave the genre a lot of popularity, and punk had a huge effect on a lot of music.
Punk isn't about popularity.

It isn't, of course not.
But if the Sex Pistols didn't make popular for a couple years, the genre would've remained very, very, underground, and a lot of later punk bands might've never existed.

I don't hate the Sex Pistols. I bought their album years ago. It's just that the songs aren't very well written.
They just seem to be all hype and propaganda and what I know about them (have heard, read about them) their music/beliefs didn't really seem important (and on their beliefs that doesn't show in their music... which is something I look for, except for that "Anarchy in the UK" bullshit). To me they just seem to be talentless (in every aspect).
And I can't stand Sid Vicious.

Every band that's popular is hyped and overrated. The Beatles are among the best bands ever, but there's also a lot of unneccessary praise for them. And their beliefs aren't completely reflected in their music. Anarchy in the UK is meaningless, it's not a cry for anarchy, it's all shock value. There's also satire in some songs. Really, they weren't as political as other punk bands, they were just a bunch of wild young Brits.
And I agree on Sid Vicious. Fucking hate that guy.

I've heard of both but listened to neither. What are they like?
I don't think I've heard a Discharge song before. I've heard quite a bit of Crass, though. Pretty good shit.
Crass is an amazing band. They pretty much brought D.I.Y ethic (from what I know) to punk. If you don't know what D.I.Y is (and that's alright) it means Do It Yourself and it's about trying to live independently and on your own (this has actually evolved into a pretty badass thing, check out Plan-It-X). Crass made everything themselves. Their music, their CDs.
Now, what they sound like they're just an Anarchist punk band (but in a different way than the Sex Pistols tune). They promoted a type of anarchy called anarcho-pacifism. Which would be Anarchy and Pacifism. Their songs are about ideas like Anti-racism, anti-war and so on.
Discharge I know less about but they're still an awesome band. I mentioned D-beat earlier. D-beat is basically a style of hardcore punk that was brought about by their drum beat. They're "harder" (I don't know a better way to put it) than Crass is in their music style. Both are really good.

okay. listen to some early rise against (my friend's favorite band, i don't enjoy them as much as he does). then listen to some taake. they both have raw vocals, raw recording, and they're not into the whole professional sounding stuff.
