My favorite is Malachite (Cu2CO3(OH)2). It's rather common, and not very valuable, but the best examples of it have a striking green shade that I just love. When well-formed crystals are exposed, they've got a nice, shiny luster and commonly have bands of different shades of green covering them.
As with any mineral, it's pretty dull unless you find a specimen that happens to have large, well-formed, exposed crystals. You can find polished individual crystals of malachites pretty much anywhere that polished rocks are normally sold. Very common, like I said.

What's your favorite mineral?
(btw if what you say isn't actually a mineral i'll be happy to correct and bash you ^o^)

Could kill a man with them.
Sapphires... they're just so blue...

Morganites are also pretty awesome, which are beryls just like emeralds, only they're usually an orange to red color.

IT'S SO SHARP
It's also quite hard. It leaves good-size marks in glass, and nails can't do shit to it.

Cool. I refuse to taste Halite while identifying it because I can usually tell what it is anyway, since most specimens are clear white and have cleavage planes occurring at 90
o angles. The only thing I've ever almost mixed it up with is Calcite, but that's slightly different even when they're both clear because Calcite cannot form right angles. More like 60-70
o.

Yes. It's also very useful, considering how amazingly sharp it is when cut correctly. It's used in surgery.
A very useful mineral:
