Cool. I refuse to taste Halite while identifying it because I can usually tell what it is anyway, since most specimens are clear white and have cleavage planes occurring at 90o angles. The only thing I've ever almost mixed it up with is Calcite, but that's slightly different even when they're both clear because Calcite cannot form right angles. More like 60-70o.

Yes. It's also very useful, considering how amazingly sharp it is when cut correctly. It's used in surgery.
