People need to quit messing with that rumor. The whole point of it is that the ghost of Bloody Mary herself is supposed to appear and haunt you if you don't turn the light back on right away. She was a woman who, in legend, killed her own children.

Of course, there's so many variants of the legend and ways to call upon her that it's near impossible to know the original.
