We used to have a daily poll about different subjects.  It would generate some quality discussion.

We'd get some thought in posts without having to make a thread in serious discussion. It was a very good thing.

Like JMV said there was some "conversation" about the polls. Well I don't recall anything like that but still, might as well add a PotD if some people want it(so far 10 people).
