if you are interested in 1v1 tetris you should definitely give it a try. it's a simple game but with a very deep pool of knowledge and research into different competitive (and also not so competitive but fun to do) techniques and a very high skill ceiling. if you're looking for a starting point then read below but if not then just ignore.

puyo puyo tetris is a good place to start, not the pc version though because the pc port for ppt is the most scuffed thing i've ever seen. puyo puyo tetris 2 came out recently as well but honestly there's not that much of a difference and i've been hearing issues about the game from within the community, not that ppt1 is free of issues itself.

if you don't feel like paying for a game then there's jstris and tetr.io on the browser. jstris has large public lobbies with lots of people for more of a t99 vibe but also smaller lobbies for a more competitive experience. i will say though that the game isn't very noob friendly based on the average skill of the players there, it was basically the standard place for all the top players for the longest time. that being said, it has a lot of single player modes as well that are good for improving different things.

tetr.io is more recent and has gained a lot of popularity up until now. basically a better looking version of jstris with slightly more emphasis on efficient downstacking because there is a damage multiplier based on how many back-to-backs you chain. for that reason i'd say it's more noob friendly than jstris cuz you don't have to necessarily be speedy to win or rather being speedy doesn't give you as overwhelming of an advantage. there is also a ranked 1v1 system on there with decent-ish matchmaking and less trolls in general.

All I know about Tetris tech is stuff I get from when Simpleflips sometimes plays Tetris. BT Cannon this, albatross that.

btw when i said tetris i meant og tetris, not smth like t99.
there's actually a league for it, as well as divisions. you're unironically doing a stand off w/ someone in your division every other week on stream for documentation. babby divisions start lower levels, meta divisions start at lv 18. each player starts out with the same pieces, so it's dependent on the player's organization skills. people usually do the left or right, never middle. ft3. i think it's hilarious how they call it a "dirty tetris" when someone does one while cleaning up their zone mid-way lol. there's some depth to it, like das vs hypertapping, playing on emu vs actual nes. have to do pull of tetris more or else the lines you complete that aren't a tetris contribute to you going up in level with less pts total when it comes toward endgame, dont want to be chasing after tetrises when you're nearing 19+. though much more experienced players dont mind it at all, and can do consistent tetrises until like 23+ when it becomes too fast.

i watch some obscure streamers. the community is actually close knit, and there are people who watch the same streamers. so sometimes I'll be in the most obscure channel doing runs, and find them in another obscure channel running the same game. p kool
