a second week was added to my spring break and now all lectures are remotely conducted via zoom (shit sux)

my job is considered """essential""" so i haven't lost any hours there

my brother however did get furloughed, but was then un-furloughed about a week later lol

Yes. I got a new job just about a week before the lockdown happened. As such, I am still stuck in "training" mode and I didn't even get to actually start working. It's a window company canvassing job, definitely not the kind of thing we can be doing during a lockdown.

Because of upcoming bills, increased rent payment, the looming move-out date for my apt (which thankfully i got pushed back to july, it WAS may), and the also-looming necessity to find a new place to live...I could not rely on the hope of quick unemployment benefits. I actually had very little time to act, and the only thing I could do at the time was try to snag my old grocery store job back asap. Thankfully, I did manage to do this. Now, I'm not sure if I need to keep working it, but considering the boost in pay and the fact I don't have much else better to do rn (as well as the uncertainty of unemployment eligibility - am i even considered an actual employee yet at andersen windows?), I'm continuing to work it until I have an ETA on my new job.

i'm working from home rn, i usually work at a small office

i literally had to bring the imac from the office home because some of the projects i work on can't be installed locally on windows, or at least it would be a pain in the ass to do so

tho i gotta admit my workload is getting pretty thin, i'm waiting for my coworkers to complete some of the backend on their end so that i can work on the front, but for the immediate future i'm in "find shit to do" mode

but all in all the impact is minimal, the main changes being that i wfh and i have apple hardware on my desk

YPrrrr

Yeah I'm working from home at least through the end of April (probably longer). At first I didn't have much to do and it was pretty great as I could mostly do whatever I wanted between little projects. Now I have a large workload and people keep calling me requesting phone conferences so it's getting kind of annoying coordinating all of this from home.

All in all though, I have to say these past few weeks have been the most consistently happy I can remember. I would love to work from home forever. Wish I could go to the gym or on a trip though

Yes in the sense that I work from home now but really my day to day is largely unchanged.

Our company is split half in Washington and half in Colorado so remote meetings are pretty normal (we've been using Zoom for a long time). I would usually work from home one day per week anyways due to my long commute so it wasn't a huge transition.

The biggest thing is just not being around my coworkers anymore. I think I've become significantly more productive and while I miss office-banter I would rather just get my work done. I'll still do video hangouts throughout the day with some of my team. Kind of dreading going back to the office tbh but that also means that i'll be bike commuting again which I am excited about. I was putting in way more miles commuting than I can get myself to do otherwise and was in great shape.

don't let's

Almost no work to do, but my boss said he was going to pay us our full pay anyway

Karel

yes and no

pros-
work from home is p chill

i have a roommate with the same job so that can be convenient

i get to practice art for work in the form of botanical illustrations

my work is temporary and we just got offered to maybe extend our contracts to work in Yellowstone for a couple extra months to make up for missed experience in the field

cons-
our work is very much not related to anything we could do at home, it's all field research and data collection of sites outdoors, so im missing out on valuable experience

my roommate has a weed brain and can't remember things he says to me so he often says things two or three times, and he's easily distracted while i prefer to get rapt in the wfh activities they give us (i had to stop working with him in the living room because it was getting too much for me)

our landlord lives above our basement living arrangement and he's verbally abusive to his asian wife and her son

my girlfriend can't visit me, so that sucks

half the reason i came here was to hike and camp but can't do that either

can't practice botany if i ain't even out there

Hiro

got furloughed, make twice as much on unemployment as i did working  akudood;

i got an offer from another place i interviewed at. he said they were impressed with me but weren't ready to commit to a full time hire cuz of the virus, but he did offer part time work. i'm waiting on this guy to call me back whenever the hell he gets power which is super annoying cuz i wanted this to be done with but. guy seems cool and i think i have a decent shot with this company maybe
