yeah i wasn't kidding lol, but china's implementation of neoliberal policy is what i would call unclean or impure, which is why neoliberalism-with-chinese-characteristics can be and is at times highly destructive

in just about one generation, china rose from the very depths of poverty to become the second largest economy and second most powerful nation in the world, and it got there precisely through adopting neoliberal policy beginning in the deng xiaoping - jiang zemin era (no thanks to criminally incompetent mao of course, as i'm sure you'd also agree goodjob;)

and that's despite china's rather dirty implementation of neoliberalism

you could even argue that a little bit of 'dirtiness' helps to accelerate poverty alleviation in the least developed states in the short term, but in the long run that is both undesirable and unsustainable and ideally you'd get progressive reforms once development hits a certain threshold a la the progressive movements that took place in the usa around the roaring 20s

The rise in China's GDP/capita predates the Deng era reforms and the later liberalization of China's economy. The diminishing poverty began with its at least "semi socialist" command economy and modernization/industrialization under Mao.  It's just that they continued afterwards.

Because keeping people poor, but not so poor that they can't afford goods to keep the capitalists in power isn't a plus
