okay i just need to vent

so i was supposed to work from home today right? with the intention of being able to sit in my undies, throw up my lunch break at noon, watch the ninty direct while on discord voice chat with some bros for the live reacts. got my time off approved and everything right, we good gonna be a good day

i wake up at 7:30 this morning and my FUCKING POWER IS OUT. no computer. no internet. i'm supposed to start working at fucking 8 lol

luckily my boss is the most chill dude on the planet so i texted him and told him im gonna give it about an hour and otherwise come into the office and he says cool. so i wait. and wait and wait and wait and i keep hoping for something but nope the power NEVER comes back on

so i accept my fate, get on the bus, and ride down the road. 10 minutes into the ride i get an email from my leasing office that says, i shit you not , the power is back on

at this point im closer to work than home and its almost 10 AM so fuck it im at fucking work now. this is literally the first time ive ever tried to work from home and the universe fucking taunts me. i'm so god damn blown right now but in all honesty it is quite the comedy

i'm not even sure i want to go into detail but suffice it to say that i don't think i have ever been quite as irritated with a medical professional as i was today

context: a bit over a year ago i was referred to a specialist by my main team of physicians in order to address a non-critical issue that is well down the list of priorities

they work in the same building, under the same network, and their offices are literally meters down the hall from each other

That would have been extremely convenient for everyone, if only this new specialist hadn't turned out to be so astoundingly frustrating to work with.

i once mentioned that i very slightly adjusted my [[[budesonide]]] dosage upwards, with my primary doctor's informal approval (he basically shrugged and was unconcerned about it, his general attitude is 'you have to find what works for you'), in order to get some alimentary issues under control

and this new """""""""""""""""specialist"""""""""""""" fires back with a flat accusation:

"Do I have to be worried... [about you potentially abusing this drug]?"

...How ing dare you? You realize I must be on this drug to mitigate the very real risk of immune infighting and not because I just happen to think it's fun, right?

Could you not have waited until our appointment was over, walked two meters down the hall, and asked him or his staff for yourself?

And even that would have enraged me, because just how ing stupid would I have to be to lie to her about something that she could effortlessly verify for herself in literally about 30 seconds?

i could be doing cocaine in the back of my car right outside in the clinic's parking lot every single day and she'd have no damn clue unless i made a point to tell her

And then there was yesterday.

She insists on prescribing a certain drug that is well known to elevate the risk of fractures in otherwise healthy adults by around seventy percent. I'm already on steroids which are themselves known to potentially reduce bone density with long-term use (and they have already caused some of my teeth to weaken); why would I needlessly elevate this risk if there exist good known alternatives to her drug choice?

but her tone suggests irritation that i would dare question her almighty opinion, and then she hits me with:

"Listen, I'm not going to sit here and argue with you about this."

...I'm not sure we were "arguing", but okay. I understand that you are ultimately the one with the degrees, but why the attitude? Maybe put those advanced degrees to use and do five ing minutes of research for your patients' sake? My concerns are not invalid. You should be well aware of the risks associated with your prescriptions.

"I'll have you know that I even have little old ladies taking this drug..."

Well good for you. That just makes me think you're irresponsible. I'm certain that if those little old ladies knew that it elevated their already high fracture risks, they'd be concerned too.

she did finally concede to considering a few alternatives but jesus ing christ, every meeting with her is like pulling teeth, and honestly i would say that she hasn't actually proven useful to me at all since our first significant meeting over a year ago

in fact, i now see her as an active hurdle, and i could probably get more done by finding someone from outside that network to manage this particular non-critical issue

which would be a crying shame because everyone else on that team has been nothing short of absolutely stellar to me, i mean they seriously go well above and beyond to address my concerns and keep me informed and well

so i can't help but wonder what in god's name they see in her

maybe it's just me

in any case, i feel i am only keeping appointments with her at this point out of politeness and respect for the doctor who referred me to her in the first place, but seriously i think those appointments have become a maddening waste of time

I have never had the displeasure of dealing with a medical """professional""" so hard-headed, conceited, presumptuous, and flat-out rude in my life.

it takes a very special kind of person to truly get under my skin, and she just so happens to be a very special kind of person

i have another appointment with her in a month, i think that's the last chance i'll give it before giving up on her[/spoiler]

I've just started lying to my doc and telling them what they want to hear ever since I told one that I had smoked some pot at some point in my life and they made sure to let me know that if I continued my use of "street drugs" it would disqualify me from receiving certain medications due to my high risk for drug abuse.

What the fuck are they even talking about lol. If anything doctors are the leading cause of prescription abuse by overprescribing shit without any real thought.

Also another doctor gave me a long lecture after I told her I had 3-4 alcoholic drinks per WEEK and how that will cause long term health problems and how I need to cut back before I develop a dependency.

These guys are fucking nuts.

...Okay? Are you going to have me escorted out by security if I overstay my welcome by 30 seconds? Jesus ing Christ, do it then.

I clearly can't fathom just how invaluable this woman's time must be if she can't take five minutes to do some basic surface-level research on a subject with which she should already be intimately familiar, can't take just one minute to speak to my other doctors before making bewilderingly asinine accusations, and if affording me 30 seconds to make one last inquiry before I've even left the room is really just such an unreasonable request.

the vast majority of medical professionals i've ever dealt with are just some of the most pleasant, easy-going, accommodating people around

but having now dealt extensively with this one particular doctor, i now completely understand where the complaints people make about the medical industry come from

i'm generally pretty open and honest with my main team of doctors but i have certainly learned to be extremely careful with what i say to this one, and how it's worded, lest she deliberately misconstrue my words and use them to undermine my credibility
