fun fact:

Quote from: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NicotineBeyond addiction, both short and long-term nicotine exposure have not been established as dangerous to adults,[19] except among certain vulnerable groups.[20] At high-enough doses, nicotine is associated with poisonings and is potentially lethal.[17][21] Nicotine as a tool for quitting smoking has a good safety history.[22] There is inadequate research to show that nicotine itself is associated with cancer in humans.[21]

QuoteNicotine is frequently used for its performance-enhancing effects on cognition, alertness, and focus.[38] A meta-analysis of 41 double-blind, placebo-controlled studies concluded that nicotine or smoking had significant positive effects on aspects of fine motor abilities, alerting and orienting attention, and episodic and working memory.[39]

so, like caffeine, pure nicotine in small doses is a negligibly harmful neurocognitive stimulant

QuoteBy reducing the appetite and raising the metabolism, some smokers may lose weight as a consequence.[47][48] By increasing metabolic rate and inhibiting the usual compensatory increase in appetite, the body weight of smokers is lower on average than that of non-smokers. When smokers quit, they gain on average 5–6 kg weight, returning to the average weight of non-smokers.[49]

and it's even effective in promoting weight loss

the only problem is that the common tobacco-based means of consuming nicotine (smoking, chewing, etc.) are absolutely loaded with pollutants that are the primary causes of cancer and other diseases commonly associated with tobacco products

But what if nicotine could be infused into some generic beverage and consumed like tea or coffee? befuddlement

nicotine is water-soluble, but its oral bioavailability is about 1/3 to 1/2 that of inhaled nicotine:

Quote from: https://ec.europa.eu/health/scientific_committees/opinions_layman/tobacco/en/l-3/4.htmThe pulmonary bioavailability (the amount absorbed from smoke) of inhaled nicotine is 80-90%.

In contrast, the buccal and gastric bioavailability of nicotine is low (20-40%) due to the acidic environment at which nicotine is protonated and therefore poorly absorbed through local membranes.

so the mass of nicotine in a beverage would have to be about 2x to 3x that in a cigarette

pure caffeine is absolutely disgusting, and i imagine pure nicotine is probably even worse, so that would probably affect beverage palatability, but i'm sure that could be worked out somehow

i wonder if there's a market for something like this y/n

also:

Quote from: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/1859921Nicotine in tobacco brings illness and death to millions of people. Yet nicotine in its pure form has the potential to be a valuable pharmaceutical agent.

When chronically taken, nicotine may result in: (1) positive reinforcement, (2) negative reinforcement, (3) reduction of body weight, (4) enhancement of performance, and protection against; (5) Parkinson's disease (6) Tourette's disease (7) Alzheimers disease, (8) ulcerative colitis and (9) sleep apnea.

I'm surprised more products aren't readily available. I mean a super addictive legal drug sounds like a businessman's wet dream
