• rely on logical fallacies


• resort to using false information


• pepper your opponent with meaningless insults in an attempt to quiet them


• needlessly raise your voice


• become offended upon being presented with information that challenges your own


• bring an anecdote to a statistics fight


• resort to shaming tactics

Do:

• try to have a shred of empathy and understand your opponent's perspective


• accept new information as fact if indeed it is fact


• use facts, and only facts, to disprove misinformation if indeed it is false


• check your sources and cite your works, when necessary/possible



• try to fully understand your opponent's position before challenging it

Otherwise, you run the risk of conversational collapse, and radicalizing both yourself and your opponent in your own beliefs. This helps no one and is strictly counterproductive.
