Kalahari Inkantation

and imo the only thing wrong with w is its awful name

to match the alphabetical pronunciations of the other consonants, it should be called 'we' or 'way' or 'ew' or something like that

it doesn't even look like a doubled u

Kalahari Inkantation

j is also arguably redundant

jay -> dzhay

X S A R and V are all the best letters

in other languages it is actually called a double v hocuspocus;

that's true, spanish gets it right in that regard

but spanish and other alphabets have their own host of problems, generally much worse than those found in the english alphabet myface;
but maybe i'm a little biased as an english speaker lol
i'm pretty sure the name Double-U comes from the fact that the actual letter U once looked like the modern-day V, and then they created W, and THEN they decided to make U look like how it is now and THEN the modern-day V was introduced.

i'm sorry hiro what are you doing. you are ranking the letters based on aesthetics. i don't even know where to start on how fucking wrong of you this is.

Hiro

why? we're rating the fucking alphabet, this isn't based on anything, he didn't say in terms of their contributions to language or social connotations, just pure personal preference, and my opinions on letters are based on how they look as well as how they sound to a lesser degree
also why did you even have to quote my big-ass post lol

Hiro

in fact if we're going purely on sound my top 5 are still (in no particular order) r, y, k, a,  and s, which are my top 5 in capital and in my top 10 in lowercase

Mando Pandango

1. when you speak, when you say the letters, do you see them? you do not
FONTS

how can you even accurately rank aesthetics when there isn't really a single uniform way to write any one single letter? that's ridiculous and you're being ridiculous
Mando Pandango

I based my tier list on sound, influence, practicality, and assertion of dominance and I kind of expected everyone else to do the same.

1, when i say a letter, yes I see it in my head. I associate sounds with shapes, and numbers with colors.
2. those are typefaces bro, and I'm talking about the general shapes, obviously they can be drawn differently but it still has to follow the basic shape & structure for legibility's sake. i even took under consideration differences between different ways a lowercase a can be drawn, or lowercase l vs capital I (partly why I rated them lowly as they are too similar)

we're talking about letters, which are written. letters are a visual creation, and are an entirely different part of language than spoken word. (in fact many languages have no written system or alphabet) it would make sense for me to look at them from a visual standpoint.

Hiro

we can both rank them on our own personal criteria though
you're a musician so it would make sense for you to emphasize sound while i ( being hiro) would emphasize visuals
