[insert nintendo game in which player-controlled possession occurs, i actually can't think of a popular example so maybe that's novel lol befuddlement]
Wind Waker has it with the Command Melody (for statues, Medli, and Makar) and Hyoi Pear (for seagulls)

I feel like Kirby probably does this too but I can't remember a specific example.

Mario&Luigi Bowser's Inside Story has some parts where M&L control Bowser, but it's not really like possession

because it's awful

It's like something EA or Ubisoft would've crapped out

The Hand That Fisted Everyone

tbh i was hyped as hell for geist but it took too long to develop and i didnt care about it when it finally got released

and even in wind waker those are just minor, severely limited puzzle-solving tools

so i guess odyssey really does represent the first time possession is prominently featured as a core mechanic of a nintendo game

I guess they half-developed it

Hiro

they published it and own the rights to it so it's a nintendo title

Kalahari Inkantation

i suppose, but i really had first-party games in mind lol

geist is an outlier one-time partnership with an external studio, and furthermore nothing about it (gameplay mechanics included) really left a lasting impression
