usually it sucks watching live performances on a computer but the ones that are good (esp when the audio is studio and not iphone quality) are REALLY good
here's two of my faves

sick DJ set by nosaj thing

slagsmalsklubben master synth playerz

squirrelfriend

well how can you really live perform edm tbh
you can just have a computer automate everything

squirrelfriend

i think using a live orchestra and live vocalists to replace samples is a good way to perform edm live
see: portishead's performances at the roseland ballroom

did you even watch the set? even though it is a DJ set it is extremely impressive and allows for a lot of improvisation
electronic music performed live is just impressive as non-electronic
of course it's different when it's two prerecorded songs and all the DJ does is fade volume or something

edit: also if you consider either of the sets that i posted EDM you have no idea what you're talking about lmao

In the Nosaj Thing clip, he's triggering samples with the MPD and tweaking filters. It isn't automated...
oh boy

squirrelfriend

performing non-vocal edm can be like performing patent shoegaze at times
i just go for the people watching and not to look at the musician (well except if he's like really hot)

squirrelfriend

so like can you give me like an edm concert that's not like yr average rave and has an art collective

lol @ "edm concerts"

well there is a difference between EDM and electronic music
edm is dance music, which generally has a DJ and doesn't rely on live performance. not that edm is bad at all, but that's not what we're talking about.

but you're one of those smart people who listens to flacs that doesnt understand that not all electronic music is EDM

but any artist that relys on actual synths generally has a performance aspect to their sets

this gusgus set is a great example

as is this dan deacon set

squirrelfriend

Can't dance to what is labelled edm or "electronic dance music" 90% of the time it's not my fault the nomenclature is confusing

squirrelfriend

I predict this except for silvertone's entry will all be on a list of stuff you'll listen to in your twenties and abandon by your 30s
