ive seen more people drinking out of mason jars here than back in NC, and when it happened in NC it was usually moonshine in the jar

Dont store food inside and don't drink from one of those! Most mason jars (with the exception of one or two companies) coat the inside of their jars with a chemical based (not plant), non stick coating to ease the canning process. During canning, you can dissolve and sanitize the sealant, but some remnants can be found in the natural imperfections in the glass. Through repeated use, like consuming drinks (especially fizzy ones), those dormant sealant particles can dissolve or dislodge and, over time, cause some very serious health concerns!
r u srs i thought mason jars, because of their glassy properties would be exempt from chemicals leeching onto your food like tin cans and plastic bottles

when i lived in jersey i had some mason jars, they're the epitome of wannabe middleclass aesthetics
i stored sugar and flour in them and had a little terra cotta bear protect the sugar from hardening
