i was driving around my 'meh' city today and it occurred to me that it was pretty old. 324 years old in fact. seems like the human race is stuck in these old ass out dated systems of living we call cities.

Samus Aran

Roseville was established in 1948, so less than a hundred years. Granted, some of the land comprising Roseville used to be part of St. Paul, which has been around since 1854. Still, less than two hundred years old.

des moines was settled in 1843 as fort des moines so 173

also funny fact the guy who built fort des moines wanted it to be fort raccoon [the name of the other river in dsm] so des moines could be raccoon city from resident evil

First europeans reached Yuma in 1540. First missions were established in the 1680s. All settlement was destroyed in the 1870s during a flood and the town was refounded in the 1880s

Cities are still a relatively modern marvel. Especially with the high populations that used to be unsustainable

According to wikipedia it was founded in 1831, so 185 years. (Though some other website says 1770. So who knows. Maybe it was just officially founded in 1831 or maybe there was a name change. I don't know.) Or it looks like it was incorporated in 1831, after looking into it more.

Though technically I guess I live in a suburb that's an unincorporated buffer zone between that city and another one and it's a census-designated place. And I have no idea how old that is.

silvertone

what were the southeast asians doing for the thousands of years before that?

strongbad

probably living in huts and being generally happy instead of being obsessed with malls and kpop and instagram (fun fact bangkok is the most hashtagged city in the world on IG)
