Showed up to a job interview a little early today and waited in the lobby. I'm a pro these days at waiting. The receptionist asked me if I wanted anything to drink while I was waiting; bottled water, coffee, tea, etc. Trick is to always say no, I think.

If D.A.R.E. taught me anything, it's to just say no.

There was another interview scheduled right before me and it was running a little long. At five minutes past my scheduled time, the door opened and I went inside, passing the other candidate on the way out. Her face was beet red. Blood red. Dead red. There are people that blush and then there are those Whities that are a step away from smoking, from popping a cartoon steam gasket somewhere behind the ears.

Got into the conference room and the interviewers were scrubbing the table with big rags. Apparently the girl before me had accepted a coffee from the receptionist and dropped it during the interview. Cheap Folgers on her clothes, on the table, on the interview notes and the back of a laptop. On the floor and on one of the chairs...

That receptionist had to have known that happened, yet she still offered me a drink anyways. Everyone's out to get you.
