we'll make it as rad (read: nerdy) as possible

Samus Aran

expect tons of weeb shit everywhere

btw i've been using a site called apartmentlist, and apparently every time you click "might work for me" on a listing, information gets sent to the management of said listing, and thus i've gotten a bunch of emails asking if i want to set up appointments to look at these places

so we'll be doing a lot of that next week

Do you guys even know where you want to be? Do you know what kind of jobs you might get or what things you want to live near? What about budget?

not gonna lie, we are somewhat shooting in the dark.

we have made a list of apartments to check out, and the list continues to grow little by little. largely, they tend to be in areas like plymouth, burnsville, roseville, maple grove, and other such areas no more than twenty minutes outside minneapolis. there are also a couple i've looked into in st. paul. unlike many other people, we're rather specifically looking for something close to minneapolis but not in minneapolis. maybe we could try living right in the city someday, but for now it's a bit much, i suppose. john's used to residential areas, i'm used to small towns.

we don't specifically want to live near anything other than what we'll need...although living near half-decent public transportation would be a plus, too.

we're going to throw in job applications in the areas that seem to have our most viable apt choices, though i'm also considering other things, like applying to the duty free that's in the airport, if we live south enough (as i just got done supervising at a duty free store), though working at the airport is obviously not ideal. i guess we're basically just initially looking for whatever we can get. likely sales jobs. we'll take what we can get to pay the rent while looking for something better. i suppose for myself personally, i want to work in publishing one way or another, but i'm sort of not really counting that right now as i don't really have any experience in the field yet.

budget? we're shooting for the $900-$1150 or so area for rent. doubt anything less would be halfway decent. that's what we're basing our budget on.

applesauce

I'm sure you're looking for something bigger than what we have, but we pay $645 and we're two blocks outside downtown.

I would suggest looking at suburbs that are closer than Burnsville or Maple Grove, ect. Those are really pretty far out. I would look in Bloomington or Richfield, especially if you are trying to get an airport job. Mendota or maybe even Eagan could work for that too. Avoid thenear-north suburbs like Brooklyn Park, ect.

Samus Aran

i've heard stories about the northern areas, especially brooklyn park, mostly just that they're the "bad" neighborhoods lol

aaaand from what i've seen of some parts of brooklyn park, they're not unfounded

also, the airport job is just a possibility for a shitty first job, not something i'd want to keep, so i'm not really factoring it into where we live much (if at all)
