every person on a few miles stretch of this road either had a do rag or was obese
saw hookers
people milling around in groups and all wearing the same t-shirts / color gear
turned off the street onto a residential street. there was a cop patrolling the residential street. also saw a moto cop drive up to this couple who were shouting/shoving and start berating them. they tried to run away but he made em come back.
houses had those big TV media organizers and open refrigerators on their porches used as shelves
Unimaginable amounts of junk piled in yards

a bunch of dogs ran across the street chasing something ... then 3 more dogs came and tried to fuck w/ my tires (Feral Dogs)
saw more dogs as we continued driving. there were animals roaming everywhere

this place was more ghetto than Gary Indiana because there were actually people out and about, and they were all Children of the Ghetto.
congrats Fresno, CA. tihs post is not racist/ghetto tourism this place was just really janky.

Fresno is awful yeah but I never saw all that much of it

Idk I've never been in horrible areas that I can remember. Northern Minneapolis can be iffy. Couple areas around Sacramento were pretty bad, like Oak Park. Nothing anything like what you're describing tho

when i was a kid: edgewater, chicago, il.  regardless of it being in the northside and generally being populated by yuppies.  but latin kings populated that place entirely in the 90s.  don't know about now but man thank god we moved out of that hoodrat block.

recently: cicero, il

man lol i'd go to a store, and for some reason, people would be hanging out there not buying stuff (cashier would tell me this, not just judging) and man i saw some woman with a tanktop, naval piercing out (like she a had a huge af belly) fake af dolce & garbbana tights, fukkin discussing.  looked like a ho.  place is just shady as hell

streets, shops looked dilapidated.

every1 looked at me for some reason where ever i went, esp. black ppl.

they tell you to bring a knife with you where ever you go lmao

there's a good pizza place around there
owner died b/c hoodrats
family stepped up

i've babysat around there, too, and in general, the kids seem sheltered.  i had some hang out with my niece and nephews and we all went to the local park together and bought them food before i had to leave town.  kids would tell me stories of kids with other issues around here

though when you go more north it's more...civil there...like a suburb.  like how this town is supposed to be lol.  huge contrast

but yea

fresno is a total shit hole. there's this venue in fresno that i've played at a few times (the CYC, actually a really sick DIY venue, fresno-ness aside) and every time we play there we always get there long before the promoters show up and end up just hanging outside the venue for hours, and there's always crackheads around being obnoxious. this one time a crackhead tried to fight my friend cause he wouldn't give him his water bottle. another time that we played there, the door to the venue was left open and a homeless woman ran inside trying to escape her crackhead
boyfriend (or something) who was apparently assaulting her across the street before he pulled a knife on her, and she ran into the venue to escape. as soon as everyone realized what was going on the man had been choked out and beat to the ground, and the knife was taken away from him before the cops arrived minutes later.

also i've had many a friends get their cars broken into in/around downtown oakland.

one more aside - i just moved into an apartment in downtown san jose and noticed after I moved that there are surenos tags all over my building and around the block. never seen anything to make me uncomfortable, but i also found out that the tattoo shop across the street from me was busted a few months ago for being a sureno meth front, so apparently i live in the ghetto now lmao :(

god damn man that place was Crackhead Central. i'm gonna watch that, thx

and 'grats on the new apartment (i guess)  hocuspocus;
