Quote“We realized that having something on the GamePad and looking back and forth between the TV screen and the GamePad actually disrupts the gameplay, and the concentration that the game player may be experiencing,” Aonuma said. “You have your car’s GPS system on your dash. If you had it down in your lap, you’re going to get into an accident!” Still, you can play the game entirely on the GamePad screen, if you like. Considering how vast the world is, it would keep you from monopolizing the TV.

Aonuma confirmed: the Wii U GamePad is a gimmick that distracts from gameplay and doesn't actually contribute anything positive to the experience.

nice to see it only took nintendo four years to admit this mistake

Samus Aran

it's funny he uses the gps comparison like that because using my phone's gps on my lap is exactly how i often navigate

silvertone

didnt u just get into accident?

Samus Aran

yes lmao but that was completely unrelated i was not using my gps as i knew where i was going

that deer also knew where it was going, straight into the front of my car

took them long enough but it's dumbfounding to me that they didn't discover this problem in basic product testing during r&d

this combined with miyamoto's grievances about the system not being powerful enough for star fox to look even passable serves as yet another unmistakable reminder of nintendo's absolute incompetence

C.Mongler

lol tec you should be a food critic tbh
