Do you mean the default smf feature
which the developers are naming as ~Personal Messages~ ?
In Real Life.. those messages neither personal nor private.

It is a bad idea to follow the smf PM approach
with unconditionally disallowed permission
of own messages Editing
and unconditional spreading of the PM content
in the body of the e-mail notification of PMs.

As mentioned before, I would like to enable that but there is some mod somewhere screwing up with code and I can't easily edit that option without a significant manual rewrite. Should we ever go to SMF2.0 (lol like 9 years in the making) it'd be something I could do.
