really this alone will give you a huge speed boost in basically everythign you do

it's amazing being able to unzip 5 gb files in 5 seconds

If you're trying to do gaming on a $700 budget, don't get an i7. Also don't get a 2011 socket. Get a Haswell i5 in LGA 1150 so you can't get a decent GPU. You don't need the uber hyperthreading that an i7 provides for gaming, it's just useless.  get the newest architecture at the highest clock speed you can afford-- you don't need 16 threads.
