and no, I don't practice wavedashing but I can do it, and DI and L-cancel I'm aware of but I don't think I've mastered it really.

I am not interested in competitive Melee because I think it is too late for meâ€"personally, I'm banking on Smash 4 being competitive-potential and then participating in the competitive scene there.

It will be played competitively but I see there being a very low chance of it being nearly as good as melee. Pm is a better bet.
But it isn't too late to get into melee. There have been record breaking events happening lately because of evo/documentary. New golden age.
But I see where you're coming from too. The meta is ridiculous standards now since everyone has been playing so long
