the whole reason i got steam was to download tf2 but then it turned out source games wouldn't work with my macbook so yeah i deleted steam shortly afterward

Why wouldn't they work with your macbook?
Incompatible version of OS X? Don't you have Windows too?
Or is it insufficient graphics processing?

There are only a few Source games that run well in OSX and TF2 isn't one of them.

If it runs anything like the Linux version (since they both use OpenGNU (I think that's what it's called)), you won't be able to get into a server because the program will freeze, then you'll get timed out, then you can try to get into the server again. Then it might work.

Then the game is super laggy no matter what your connection is so it's just awful.

Portal, Left4Dead 2, and CS:GO run pretty well though.
