I'm not sure that anybody had every called me Dave. I was Davy when I was younger and now most people just call me David except for some who knew me as Davy.

davie doesn't produce the bad mental image that dave does.  i'm not sure.  i just don't know very many people who would be considered 'successful' that go by dave
