i'd really fucking appreciate it if some of you guys would take this survey im doing for class.  it's on tidiness, and it's for my social statistics class.  im actually going to be using spss (program for testing and analyzing data) for this too so i think it may be interesting a bit, at least.

done.

The wording on the last question was odd, and I felt like having two questions rating how tidy i am was kind of redundant. Just a couple things to think about.

well one was askign for a rating for oneself, then a rating when comparing themselves- but yeah i agree too, but lol fuck- i don't think i can change it now since it started

and i guess i kinda asked it oddly...i wonder how i could reword it.  but the teacher said it was ok when i showed it to her

Yeah, I knew what you meant by all of it. It's just for a class so it'll work, don't worry about it.

On the last one, I would have asked how much the NEED to be tidy causes stress.

Did it.

Idk how my responses are... I mean in my immediate surroundings I associate 90% with people between the ages of 20 and 28, about 70% male, so, I mean compared to them I'm like a 5, compared to how I grew up I'm like a 2 an compared to society as a whole I'm like a 4. Idk man.

idk about that graphite question.  I mean, being left handed you kind of get used to it.  The same goes for other substances that get on your hands daily...

But things like food, dirt, or snot, I get really bothered and have to wash it off of my hands.

im right handed and it always gets on me, too.  the only reasons why i picked graphite because it seems like it would be something that wouldn't be bad as something like ketchup, dirt, and/or snot since i think everyone would wash it away.  i also thought graphite smudges would be a pretty common thing since i assume everybody who has gone to school has has graphite smudges at least once, and at the same time it's pretty noticeable but pretty much harmless...i think.  like just a "small" tick for one to possibly one to ask themselves, "is it really important to wash y/n."  but yeah i agree that there other substances that get on one's hands daily that i could have used still.

mainly it was just a quick thought, haha.

i did it.  in the houses i've lived in i am always the tidy person who cleans dishes and picks up rooms

Amethyst

I found a few problems with the survey, but nothing too bad; I could understand all of it although a lot of the questions I literally had no clue about so I just made an extremely vague estimate for them.
I'd say that I don't tidy very often, I really only tidy when the level of untidiness becomes unbearable for me.
The last question kind of confused me a little bit, asking how stressed I was from being tidy, because I thought it was asking me how stressed I am when everything is tidy. But in the end, I took the question to mean how stressed I get over my own tidiness because it just made more sense to me that way, but I still really have no clue. its name is doodthing :3

but yeah maybe the next survey i take ill take some pointers from you guys, because i rushed that shit so much

and that was what i wanted for the last question, and thank you for taking it even if you put vague estimates

oh and i got FIFTY-FOUR REPLIES FOR THE SURVEY, HOLY SHIT

this means...i'll have to tie all of these variables together

lol fuck this is going to be a long night

regardless, THANK YOU TO THOSE WHO TOOK THE SURVEY

I'M SO RELIEVED TODAY

(I am such an amateur at social research, but fuck it.  And I may suck at explaining this shit, but hope you at least learn something...haha...)

I feel like showing the results to you guys for those who've participated and actually feel like demonstrating some of what I've learned.  It's the least I can do...  (I actually typed all of this shit, not copy-pasted from my project.)

Well, in this project, I was very limited with the topics to come up with, since my teacher wanted to apply a certain guideline for doing your research.  And there's this committee you must get your reason and methods for research validated before you can start doing the actual research, called the Institutional Review Board.  They go by certain guidelines like:  Making sure your participants aren't offended, they don't feel uncomfortable, that you must have their consent, (For the most part- observation in a "natural" setting doesn't really set the board off- if somebody's wondering.) and etcetera.  So I had to choose something that was pretty...much on the surface area.  I mean, the class didn't go through the process of getting our topics green-lit, but my teacher still wanted to abide by their ways by limiting us to topics not so controversial.  Participants were all eighteen-years-old or older.  Twenty-five male participants- same number of female participants, too.

Moving on, I couldn't truly think of anything but determining if there was a difference in tidiness between sex men and women.  Another thing about social research standards- saying sex as the variable isn't acceptable to the social research community.  It has to be stated as male and female because they are truly this strict about making your statements count.

First we have to make our research and null hypotheses- just to emphasize the main point of this project.  The research hypothesis would be what you suspect the results will be like.  But in case your research hypothesis fails, you must have a null hypothesis- which is pretty much saying that your research hypothesis didn't actually come as planned.  So for my case:

Research hypothesis:
There is a difference in tidiness between males and females.

Null hypothesis:
There is no difference in tidiness between males and females.

To determine if this project goes with one or the other, we had to do this by t-testing.

Though, you must determine which variable is your independent, and another dependent.  The independent variable is supposed to be the underlying cause for the dependent variable.  So my independent variable are male and females, and my dependent variable is tidiness.  Usually, variables can be interchangeable with independent and dependent variables- but in this case, my chosen variables are more relevant for my hypotheses.

T-tests are used to test the significance in the mean differences between two variables.  One variable no matter what, must be interval, (Interval variables have their data represented in numbers.) and the second variable must be nominal (Data that doesn't have any order.  [Ex: Sex- assuming one doesn't value males over females and vice-versa.]) or ordinal.  (Data that is ordered.  [Ex: Class level: freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior.])  For the people who've taken my survey may have noticed that some questions asked your age, number of times you did something- those questions were going for interval data.  And the ones with filling in a blank were mainly ordinal data.  Regardless, one can still do t-tests with ordinal data and nominal data.  But a test that's more suited for that would be a chi-square test.  (The "chi" pronounced as "Kai."  Like that guy from Beyblade.)

And another thing, I must make the research and the null hypotheses for the t-test results.  In this case, the research hypothesis is what you're looking for when doing the t-tests.  With this, you must have your null hypothesis ready, in case your research hypothesis doesn't go as planned.  So I'd present my two t-test hypotheses:

Research hypothesis:
There is a mean difference in tidiness between males and females.

Null hypothesis:
There is no mean difference in tidiness between males and females.

So this is an independent t-test, usually just used for two variables.  Each row is a separate test- just to clarify.  So, what are we exactly looking at in here?  Really, we're just going to focus on a few select boxes.  Starting with the Levene's Test for Equal Variances.  Now, in social research standards, if the Sig. value for a variable is below .05, you can assume equal variances.  But variables that are over .05, you have to look at the row that's labeled "equal variances not assumed."  Next- you see the column that's labeled, "Sig. (2-tailed)?"  This is will determine whether or not the data is significant- or more whether or not if there's a significant mean difference.  For a test to be significant, there must be less room for the probability of error.  The most you can have according to social research, is 5% for probability error, or .05.  So which variables have significant data?  If you can actually read numbers, the variables that have significant mean differences were:
laundry, washhands, and othertidiness.
For more depth on the variables:

Actual survey: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/TRDKD62

howold = Age.
ratetidiness = Rating of tidiness of oneself.
laundry = How much laundry one does a week.
washhands = How many times one washes their hands per day.
graphite = Rating on a scale of one through ten on how one would be bothered by graphite smudges on their hand(s).
spendcleaning = How much time one spends time cleaning per week.
othertidiness = Rating on a scale of one through ten on how one would suspect how another would rate their own tidiness.
livingsp =  If one has their living space moved by themselves, have other people to move their shit, or if it's not bothered with at all.
stressedtidy = Rating on a scale of one through ten on how stressed one gets from being tidy.

Now, let's see if there is some veracity to this shit when we actually compare the means of men's results to women's:

In here, you can actually compare the means, just to see what's behind a "significant" mean difference.  Man, i've spent at least one hour typing this shitto, but I'll just mention how the three variables that were deemed to have a significance with their mean difference actually do have noticeable differences than the other variables.  Though some had different ways of measuring- but it should make sense.  But, how do I actually determine which gender is more tidier and which is not?  What- by the number of differences you have that favor towards a sex?  Really- I didn't plan far ahead when doing this shit in the beginning...haha...  But since only three of eight variables (Nine if you include age, but that was just added as filler...haha...)  had a mean difference- for the most part- I cannot reject the null hypothesis for the t-test and the topic, saying that there is, for the most part, no difference in tidiness between males and females.  Oh, and when clinging back to the hypotheses, you must word your answer as: "I reject the null hypothesis." or "I cannot reject the null hypothesis."  Just something in the social research community.

I kind of rushed it, but in the end, I hope you guys got...a few things out of this...lol...
