It uses the same sensor bar as the Wii...and besides, Nintendo's making a program to transfer all WiiWare/VC downloads to your Wii U, meaning you'll need to keep your Wii.

If they had a system in place for the common request of keeping data when a Wii breaks and is replaced, this wouldn't be an issue

and the problem of having a sensor bar applies more to people who don't own a Wii at all rather than those who used to have one. I think people tend to forget or exclude things like the sensor bar when selling a system somewhere like Gamestop.
