I just sent a letter to the CDC regarding an article I read which reported on recent outbreaks of a mysterious illness in Africa titled 'nodding disease', partly because that's as much as they know about it--it makes the victims turn into mush with physical convulsions and central nervous system damage. I instantly recognized these features as those of a disease contracted by African Lions not too long ago in a case that had experts stumped. They found the origin of that outbreak to stem from Hyaenas and although the Lions should have been naturally immune to it some of them still managed to get sick. And they too, died in the same grueling and mysterious way. So I wrote to the CDC if this possibility has been explored and if it might help in the search for cures and answers. I would not at all be surprised if some similar virus had leaped from animals into humans.

I ended my letter with 'yours truly, a concerned citizen'.
