QuoteA continuing headache has been Sony's TV division, now in its ninth straight year of red ink.

Quote

Kazuo Hirai [...] said Sony is now more nimble and focused and plans to target customers willing to pay more for its televisions and cellphones.

and they're still stuck living in the past awdood;

QuoteSony’s Total Liabilities: $135.61 Billion

Sony has more total liabilities than Microsoft, Apple, Google, and Electronic Arts combined.
selling both their tokyo and ny headquarters would net them about 1.5% of what they needed to pay off this debt
silvertone

http://www.zdnet.com/uk/uk-fines-sony-395k-for-2011-playstation-hack-7000010256/

QuoteSony Computer Entertainment (SCE) Europe Limited has been fined £250,000 (US$395,775) by the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) in the UK, following the massive hacking of Sony's PlayStation Network (PSN) in 2011 that saw million of users' personal data leaked.

even for sony, this fine is absolutely nothing, considering their recent multi-billion dollar annual losses

http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/afp_asiapacific_business/view/1200416/1/.html

QuoteJapanese electronics giant Sony on Thursday posted a record full-year loss of $5.7 billion

they would have to be losing about $15.6 million per day for that to happen

meaning that $395,000 fine is only about 1/40 of what they lose daily anyway goowan
and it's even worse considering that their expected losses for 2012 total about $6.4 billion

http://www.nytimes.com/2012/04/11/business/global/sony-revises-expected-loss-to-6-4-billion.html?_r=0

meaning that fine is an even smaller fraction of what they lose daily at just 1/44
one more year of this and they'll be gone

hey amateur economist tec, how much money does sony lose on the other entertainment arms of sony such as their motion picture and music divisions

those are still profitable, but i'm sure you already know that lol

but all of their hardware divisions have been suffering for years

i don't actually expect them to disappear anytime soon, but i do expect them to abandon the unprofitable arms of their company if this trend continues (and there's no indication of it stopping in the foreseeable future)
...But then again, Kaz recently announced that they'll still be targeting customers willing to pay more for their devices.

Even though nobody has been willing to pay more for Sony devices for at least a decade. awdood;
although there has been some decent (though fairly inconsequential) news recently

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2013-01-24/sony-27-convertibles-jump-revives-market-in-slump.html

but that has less to do with sony's """restructuring""" and more to do with the weakening of the yen lol

but it helps in any case

it's too bad asset sales isn't exactly the most sustainable business
http://news.cnet.com/8301-1001_3-57568138-92/sony-sees-revenue-rise-losses-decline-as-turnaround-hopes-gain/

QuoteDuring the fourth quarter of 2012 (Sony's fiscal third quarter), the company generated $22.4 billion in revenue, representing a 6.9 percent gain over the same period in 2011 (PDF). And although the company still lost $124 million during the period, that was far better than the $1.7 billion it lost in the fourth quarter of 2011
