http://www.zdnet.com/uk/uk-fines-sony-395k-for-2011-playstation-hack-7000010256/

QuoteSony Computer Entertainment (SCE) Europe Limited has been fined £250,000 (US$395,775) by the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) in the UK, following the massive hacking of Sony's PlayStation Network (PSN) in 2011 that saw million of users' personal data leaked.

even for sony, this fine is absolutely nothing, considering their recent multi-billion dollar annual losses

http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/afp_asiapacific_business/view/1200416/1/.html

QuoteJapanese electronics giant Sony on Thursday posted a record full-year loss of $5.7 billion

they would have to be losing about $15.6 million per day for that to happen

meaning that $395,000 fine is only about 1/40 of what they lose daily anyway goowan
and it's even worse considering that their expected losses for 2012 total about $6.4 billion

http://www.nytimes.com/2012/04/11/business/global/sony-revises-expected-loss-to-6-4-billion.html?_r=0

meaning that fine is an even smaller fraction of what they lose daily at just 1/44
one more year of this and they'll be gone

those are still profitable, but i'm sure you already know that lol

but all of their hardware divisions have been suffering for years

i don't actually expect them to disappear anytime soon, but i do expect them to abandon the unprofitable arms of their company if this trend continues (and there's no indication of it stopping in the foreseeable future)
...But then again, Kaz recently announced that they'll still be targeting customers willing to pay more for their devices.

Even though nobody has been willing to pay more for Sony devices for at least a decade. awdood;
Kalahari Inkantation

although there has been some decent (though fairly inconsequential) news recently

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2013-01-24/sony-27-convertibles-jump-revives-market-in-slump.html

but that has less to do with sony's """restructuring""" and more to do with the weakening of the yen lol

but it helps in any case

it wouldn't surprise me if scei eventually split off from the rest of the ailing company as one of the only divisions with future potential and hope

whatever the change, it probably needs to be drastic and soon

I'm not sure there's much hope for any of Sony's other branches at this point, which is why I wouldn't be surprised if SCEI spun off and watched from the outside as the rest of the ship crashed and burned, or got taken down with it.

I don't know if they can survive for much longer in their current form. befuddlement

that being said, i do believe (or hope at the very least) that their gaming division at minimum is still salvageable, though not without ditching absolutely all the other garbage (which might not be such a bad deal considering that virtually all of their other major subsidiaries aside from those dealing with music and movies have been nothing but leeches for at least the better part of the decade girl;)

QuoteSony, which has cut its earnings forecasts six times on Hirai's watch,

Quoteforecasts a 230 billion yen ($1.9 billion) net loss for the business year to March, and will suspend dividend payments for the first time, after deep smartphone losses.

QuoteBut even as many analysts say further drastic action is needed, such as a full-fledged exit from TVs, Hirai used last week’s high-profile Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas to push an array of new gadgets, including a super-slim TVs and a $1,100 Walkman digital-music player.
