I think that's probably cause it is a lot more prevalent where Thyme is from so he at least has exposure to it, whereas just learning a foreign language say Korean or something without much exposure to it is a lot lot harder.

Very much this. Video game publishers have started to localize games in French here only this generation. Previously, only Ubisoft bothered to do that. I was pretty much immerged in English through my favorite hobby.

Not to mention television. When I was younger most of the movies I watched were dubbed, but I did watch a whole lot of YTV and Fox Kids. I started to go out of my way to watch movies in their original language only a few years ago.
