Sorry, I typed it quickly as one thought without going back and thinking about what the words would actually mean from outside my head. I think (I agree wit u btw) I meant that as a species we are beginning to move beyond considering procreation as a necessity and individual apoptosis as an unfortunate alternative; instead,  our ~point~ in life is to contribute to the social organism's growth in ways other than, but ~equally important as~, physically procreating. But I also hate materialism and am very prone to considering lofty transhuman ideals as reality . . ..

I don't think humanity will ever achieve anything as a species if we don't aspire on a grand scale.

I know this is kind of nit-picky, but I'm curious.  When you use the word "point," are speaking objectively?  As if it's our actual purpose in life?  I'm a little hesitant to think that we actually have a cosmic purpose.  I don't think that's how you're using the word, but I'm not sure.

And as to everything else you said: I agree mostly.

I've basically been thinking about this on and off for months now.  I think we are reaching a point in our history that we need to consider humanity (and life in general) on a larger scale.  We could get so much more done if we could somehow get focused.

This is a lot harder to write coherently than I thought.

Also,

Transhumanism is interesting.  I think we should go for it if we can.  If we have the right tools to improve the human body, by all means, use them!

HOWEVER

I respect death, and to work against it, although it is tempting, needs to be questioned.  There aren't enough resources on this planet to restrict death and to not restrict reproduction simultaneously.

Yeah, I didn't mean any objective or deterministic purpose, except where we've chosen it ourselves. Of course there is no such 'cosmic purpose' of humanity... except for Universe to develop a sufficiently perceptive tool to assess itself with, to continue evolving into infinity. At least in my opinion.

Good thoughts, good thoughts.

Do you have siblings, cousins, 2nd cousins? If so, the "chain" will still be going. You're only a very small branch on a very large tree.
