making my own "music"

Very cheap boss sp 202 & and then the corresponding boss 202 drum machine. They're really fun to mess around with though. I'm going to have to look into some of those audio interfaces. I ordered some alesis linelink cable tthat I think might help me?

So, are you running the sampler through the drum machine, or vice versa?

It looks like the sampler has a standard RCA out, so you could just get a simple RCA connector and plug into the headphone/mic slot on your computer and record straight to a simple DAW (even audacity would work for that).

I'm a little concerned about those linelink cables working with the sampler. Unless I'm wrong, aren't those usually 1/4" connectors?

But yeah, looking at some pictures of the drum machine, I see a single RCA out, so I'm thinking you could probably connect the RCA-out to the RCA-in on the sampler and run another RCA-out from the sampler to your computer.

i cable which is the audio splitter and connects to the computer came yesterday. So this morning I opened it and I'm sort of confused. I tried connecting it to the drum machine and then to computer but no sound is being produced. What should I be expecting/do? haha thanks

-You'll need to be recording to a DAW. You can find a version of audacity online for free, and that works as well as anything if you just want to do straight recording.

-Check your sound input settings. I know some computers have dedicated mic slots, but a lot don't. I don't know if you're running mac or windows though...

-Also, while you're connected to the computer, you should still be able to monitor sound via headphones through the drum machine.

Oooh Ok. That makes a lot of sense. I have audacity and I am running on a mac. I have headphones too so I'll just do all of those things. What do I check my sound input settings for?

Go to system preferences and click sound.

Then click on the input tab and change the setting to input under "use audio port for".
