yeah, I suppose you could call it that. I'm just dicking around in audacity, sampling different things and trying out different techniques and whatnot. Here's a song I just made tonight, let me know what you think:

I made two other pieces over the summer, you can check them out too:
#2: http://soundcloud.com/v-o-l-t/grandpas-house
#1: http://soundcloud.com/v-o-l-t/dead-10

Anyone else make their own shit?

it is not bad. I think when the third layer comes in it gets chaotic and off the beat, you should find a better riddim there. also I hear that son et lumiere at the beginning  wariodood;

I made these like 2 summers ago, my only efforts at recording to date. they are stunning examples of shit. (all tracks done by me at separate times)

'drink me a milkshake', improvised
[mp3]http://boyah.net/wziard/drinkmeamilkshake.mp3[/mp3]

'hooked a boot', experimental dancehall glitch stepbeat
[mp3]http://boyah.net/wziard/hookedaboot.mp3[/mp3]

[spoiler]also I forgot this you might be more interested in, given what you are working on. they are some 'dj mixes' I made last year. (they are each 1hr long but appreciate the fade ins/outs. amateur shit also disclaimer)

http://boyah.net/wziard/140a.mp3 (dub)

I feel like the third layer works for a few seconds, but after a while it does get a bit off. That's partially why I made the second layer fade out. But still, this was more just a practice than anything, it's more about the ideas I applied then how well the rhythms fall into place with each other.
I wonder if I lowered the volume on that background layer if it would sound a bit less chaotic befuddlement
but yeah, mars volta lol  hocuspocus;

That first track of yours... the sax is kind of crazy, I like it. You mumble too much though. Beat's kind of stuttery too. I laughed at the lyrics powerofone; Overall though, this is kind of promising.
that second track... that doesn't even count, man.

practice makes perfect.

lol yeah the second track was a joke, it was just me dropping paperclips and crunching paper. you should listen to the mixes too (once they finish uploading in ~10 mins), I think you'd enjoy them, first one at least

I think I remember you posting some mixes you made once. they're pretty long, right? if they're what I'm thinking of, they were fairly enjoyable.

I probably did. Anyway I'd recommend Ableton Live, it's great for playing around with mixing and sampling whether or not you're doing it live or with external devices.

Hey this one's almost coherent  O_0 But the samples are a bit too obvious.

I have a tiny handful of tracks that I would call "finished" (mixed and mastered properly) but I'm not really ready to share those.
I was going through a few folders in my MPC's files a few days ago, though, and I have about 120 projects started on there.
If I actually followed through with some ideas instead of leaving them to rot for a while, I might have a little more to show for my efforts.

All I really have uploaded anywhere is a few bumfucking youtube videos. They're not indicative of any of the finished or almost finished stuff. It's more like, "hey, turn on the camera while I mess around for a bit".

Also, use headphones.

That actually turned out pretty nice. Very mellow, I'm really digging it. That's a really nice setup you've got there too, I'm jealous.

Give ableton a shot. Most DAW's have like a thirty day trial which allow you to test things out, full featured.
If you're into sampling, you can pick up a cheap midi keyboard and trigger them via the keys. Or, if you really want to get into things, you could grab an MPD and bounce around on some pads.

boognish that video is great! I like what you're doing.

I have a a sampler and a drum machine and I have been trying to get stuff together but I just need to organize things in a way of them being music. I need to just get something to hook up my drum machine & sampler to a computer or something and then put it together.

Cool! What kind of drum machine and sampler do you have?
There are some pretty reasonable audio interfaces out there that you could look into for connecting to your computer.

Very cheap boss sp 202 & and then the corresponding boss 202 drum machine. They're really fun to mess around with though. I'm going to have to look into some of those audio interfaces. I ordered some alesis linelink cable tthat I think might help me?

I have a few pieces of shit I made dating back from 2008 to the summer of this year.

I've progressed from "apply a few filters in Audacity" remixes to spooky dark ambient. thumbup; / thumbdown;
