Alternative rock is probably the best label for Swervedriver and they have shred their 'shoegaze tendencies' as of this year.
I love [you]

does the jesus lizard count as grunge?? they rule

i'd consider them more like some sort of experimental alternative rock and/or noise rock

The Hand That Fisted Everyone

my mom was really into collective soul, so she would play them all the time. Also my sister liked them

they're not grunge but they were marketed that way in the beginning of their career.

Houdini

I had the great, great fortune of seeing the Jesus Lizard live when they reunited in '09. I can safely say (speaking as a person who has seen a lot of shows) that they could mop the floor with at least 75% of the bands I've seen live. Every time the drummer hit the snare drum I felt like the skin was peeling off my skull. The only downside is that I accidentally got a handful of David Yow's beer belly when he crowdsurfed the first time. That was pretty gross.

The Melvins are essential listening for anyone anywhere. I wouldn't call the Meat Puppets grunge, aside from maybe their 90's output, but they're an amazing band, and also one of the best live shows I've seen.

The Screaming Trees are a grade B band with an A+++ singer. He could sing the phone book and I'd eat up every word of it.

Most of the "grunge" bands I like are 90's bands that didn't really fit in but got lumped in with what might more accurately be called the "real" grunge bands for whatever reason. As far as straight up-grunge goes, it's all somewhat dull to me. Does any seriously still listen to Blind Melon? Do people really like anything Pearl Jam did after Ten, or do we only listen to them out of good faith?

I was under the impression that, no, nobody does listen to Blind Melon or post-Ten Pearl Jam. The only reason I even have a post-Ten Pearl Jam album is because it was mistakenly put in the case for another used album that I bought at a record store and was unable to return it.
