what little hole in the wall places do you guys like to go eat at in your city?  in the midwestern suburbs everything was a goddamn subway or denny's or jimmy john's or leeann chin.  it's like a plague

hmm I have a few

there's one little mexican restaurant that is literally run out of a house that is just delicious cause it's made when you get there

a tiny little japanese place in my town run by a single guy that makes awesome sushi and other things like japanese curry/tofu steaks/etc

a place that makes japanese dumplings that's pretty popular in my town

and of course my favourite little tea house that does tea, hookah, and fresh produce made vegan foods

Here in Winona there are so many little locally owned cafes and restaurants and it is such a refreshing sight in comparison to seeing a Mcdonalds on every corner.

One of my favorites is called Dibs Cafe. It's a completely vegan/vegetarian menu which is pretty cook. I've been a vegetarian for about 3 months so this place was a nice find.
Its just one of those places that you can go and hang out and get some food.
There's a large under sea mural on the back walls, and local art pieces hanging all over the walls, some for sale. And a little indent in the wall with a bunch of retro arcade games and one of the old ass Pacman table thingies.

I don't really know "places around town" that well, as I don't really get out too often.
Definitely not a hole in the wall, but Pizzeria Bianco is a local Phoenix place that's been awarded for having some of the best pizza in the world. I went there once and had to wait for something like 2 or 3 hours to get in, because tons of people always want to eat there and it's a pretty small place.

As for smaller local places, not really a restaurant, but Karl's Bakery is pretty close to my house and they make some really good desserts.

The inside is pretty much just that counter right there.

Here in Flagstaff I'm starting to find a few more places because things are closer together, but even still I haven't been to a lot of places. My favorite though is Mama Burger, they're probably my favorite burgers ever.

The place is super tiny (just a counter and some stools up against the window) but they also have the building space next to theirs that they use as a dining area. All the employees put up their baby photos, and they used to tape funny craigslist postings on the windows for you to look at while you ate.

The bakery reminds of my favourite little cupcake place in town. It is literally a hole in the wall beside a really cool used book store.

I know that's not what that place is but have you ever had a purple cow (grape soda with vanilla ice cream)? Those are delicious.

never heard of any of those but rolberto's. I like filiberto's best though,  I think.

Here are places I love to go to in Chicago:

Taco Burrito King: I fucking love this place...I used to go there at least once a week, have cut back a bit lately. SO GOOD.

Maxwell Street Depot (aka Ghetto Dog): I go here at least twice a week, usually 4+, because it is 4 blocks from my place, 24/7, and $3.50 for the best fucking polish ever with fries oh god.

Mr. Greek: P. good. Their meal pricing is hilariously good. Also 24/7, but the 8 bus stops running pretty early and it's kind of a long way to take the red line subway and then the blue line subway. But always worth it.

Pizano's: Kind of expensive, but definitely the best deep dish in Chicago. A lot of people will swear by Gino's or Giordano's, but seriously, guys, this place kicks both their asses combined.

Gigio's: CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP, STRAIGHT SHOT ON THE RED LINE, $0.75 LITER RCs, AND I FUCKING LOVE THE WILSON ARCARDE

Here are places I loved in Minneapolis:

Slice of New York: Yumyumyum. Used to go here at least once a week for lunch. God damn heavenly calzones.

Quang: They get you in and out fast as fuck but it's damn good.

Seafood Palace: Ahh, what can I even say? JUST GO THERE AND YOU WILL THANK ME.

Scott Jamama's: Oh god I just came.

There are definitely a lot more for both cities but I am lazy right now.
