The film deals with the story of Genesis. But as Merhige revealed during Q&A sessions, its primary inspiration was a near death experience he had when he was 19, after a car crash. The film features no dialogue, but uses harsh and uncompromising images of human pain and suffering to tell its tale. It also has no music, instead, the movie is accompanied by the sounds of crickets, and occasionally other sound effects such as grunting and thrashing.

Begotten is like Cat Soup. It is really visual/surreal, but makes less sense and is a lot more gross.
I don't really recommend it if you want to have a "good" movie, but everyone should watch that movie sometime in their life.

Cat Soup was awesome, Begotten is eehhhhh good. Most of Begotten can't even really be seen that well, and is more entertaining if you watch it alone. Since other people can ruin the ~mood~ of the scene. i dont really know what i am trying to say
