Upon registration, everybody is a Restricted Newbie until I manually change the status, thanks to that very useful Default Membergroup on Registration mod.

That was the option I selected when I first signed up, as it happens. I chose my email to be visible to everybody. I don't have a problem with that. But thank you for mentioning it.

As for this question, there are no free TLD's available due to how the DNS and registrars work but you may be able to find free subdomains on things like .co.nr.
