In the last week I drove all the way from Philly to Chicago, passing through such industrial powerhouses as Pittsburgh, Youngstown, Cleveland, and Sandusky on Saturday, staying within sight of the docks at Marblehead, and then last night driving through Toledo, South Bend, Gary, East Chicago, and finally up over Calumet on the Chicago Skyway. This all got me really thinking about rust belt things and industry and such and then tonight I was bored so Google and I analyzed data on Great Lakes shipping. Check out these awesome graphical representations of data.

I made these for my own personal enjoyment, but spent like 3 hours entering the data and calculating everything, so I felt like I should share it with someone. I hope you enjoyed them.

Really nice graphs. I appreciate them. I often go to Lake St. Clair and remember when I was very young seeing the huge freighters up close.

I watch a lot of those discovery finishing shows, for crabs, for tuna, and whales, you know, so I imagine these fisherman, in their blue collar boat, crowded and short, American and robust, painted, grim face and hard of luck, dashing as shit! and sailing out into the night. Out there in danger, and hazards unseen, through freighters and ice, heavy seas and slushy decks, tanks fully empty, and hearts sunk in deep, heavy, chests and lids turn off the lights. Done and broke for the night. I thank you Monsieur and your awesomely  magical graphical representation and such, for this splendid little Serande, this romantic tingle of passion, and humanity, purely worthless and time consuming, but quite charming and nice.

Bud damn dawg, you rolled through Philly and didn't even call!?

I didn't know you lived there. I was only in Philly very briefly, going to my cousin's wedding in Harleysville.

It was such a sad wedding-- they only got married because she's kind of stuck with him. He's an idiot and cheats on her all the time, but she doesn't really have all that much of a choice, because she's far too stupid to get a stand-up guy, and they already have a 2 year old daughter together. It was such a terrible wedding, fights breaking out, ect, ect. Seemed like a reality TV show.   :(

But I guess the moral of the story is don't be a dumb bitch, and even if you are, don't let a dickwad get you pregnant, or your life will be fucked up.

I love Duluth, but haven't been in way too long. I haven't even been through Duluth in like 4 years or something, and the last time I actually stayed there is probably pushing on 9 years now. I would really like to go back and look at all the ore docks and elevators, now that I'm interested in that sort of thing.

Tomboh

My family and I drive through Duluth when we go to up-state Minnesota to fish.

also we usually eat at a hardees there for some reason

I've always wanted to canoe along the bottom of Lake Superior.

Cool graphs though, I enjoyed them.
