Edgar Allen Floe is a rapper from Raleigh, N.C. I caught one of his songs while listening to the local college radio station there in Raleigh as I was driving through. This isn't the song I heard, but it's good nonetheless.

East River Pipe is a singer/songwriter who, way before his music career, succumbed to alcohol, depression, and eventually became homeless (thanks wikipedia!). He met some lady from Queens and somehow became a musician.

Of all the songs I've heard from him, this is probably my favorite. It's off his first record, Shining Hours in A Can

I don't have that album, but I have his latest album, We Live In Rented Rooms. It's worth a listen, at least.

Next is Natureboy, a music act from Brooklyn, New York. Here's the bio from their myspace page

Natureboy is the musical project of Sara Kermanshahi, a first generation American of Iranian descent. Along with long time collaborator/producer Cedar Apffel and joined by Rory O'Connor (Masterface) on drums and keyboards, Natureboy recorded their self-titled debut which received its official release on Own records in July 2010. Natureboy weaves loops, waves of guitar, synth, bass, and drums with acoustic folk to create a haunting synthesis of moody and intelligent, melodic and angular music. Her lyrics are both starkly emotional and strangely evocative; drawing the listener into a strange and resonant world that persists long after the music is over. What emerges is gorgeous, vulnerable, and almost threatening.

I don't have a official recording of them, I have the nyctaper bootleg/live archive thing. Some have been put off by her voice, but I think it's lovely. I listen to this album when I am about to go to sleep. My favorite cut from that set is the cover of I'll Keep it With Mine

I liked the Fred Neil song. I'll definitely check out more of him.

As for the others, well I am kinda sick of rap songs sampling some soulful song with all the same generic lyrics over it, and the second and third guy's voices kinda annoyed me.

Atkins is weird. She has a really good voice, but Neptune City, the album she put out a few years ago feels really over-produced and sounds so generic with the exception of two tracks on there.

And that's a damn shame too because "the way it is" is essentially her channeling Roy Orbison. That's a great song.

I started digging Van Dyke Parks throughout this week. I can't think of a single song to really present as his Golden Song, since his albums are all better digested as one piece.

A band I know absolutely nothing about except they are from either eastern or northeaster europe. This live song is better than the recorded version, of course I would be disappointed if it wasn't.
