Let me explain.

When the game came out, I was 8. My brother beat it, but I could never get into it. When Majora's Mask came out, I actually got to understand it all and beat it. One thing about both games, though, was that the controller for the 64 in my opinion was an abomination. I've found that the 3DS controls for the game are much easier. And now I actually have the patience to go through.
