2 (20%)
Either, the equation is poorly written

Yeah so see poll for details

I initially went with 1, but now I'm thinking that it's a matter of perspective isn't it? It hinges upon whether you interpret it as (6/2)(1+2) or 6/[2(1+2)]. Obviously a useful equation wouldn't really ever be so unsimplified but what's your opinion?

9 since it's not 6/(2(1+2))

whether or not they meant it to be that

YPrrrr

Huh for some reason it does seem like 9 now with a slash (/) rather than an actual division symbol.

Oh well myface;

It really doesn't have much to do with order of operation since you just add the numbers within the parenthesis and then multiply. Or distribute then add, really doesn't matter

In getting the answer of 1 I was reading the equation completely differently (ie incorrectly) but still proceeding correctly in the order of operation.

6
_ (1+2) would have made it obvious
2

Hiro

Where is this on Facebook?
I think it's poorly written, but the way it's written should come out to 9. Which problem the creator intended is ambiguous.

what

if you just have numbers you should never distribute psyduck;

Travis

it's 9, when you have multiplication and division left in the equation you're supposed to go left to right

It doesn't matter...

6/2 = 3

3(1+2)=?
3(3) = 9

3(1+2)=?
3+6=9

Andria

3(1+2)=?
3+6=9
[/quote]
no it would be
3(3)

parenthesis always come first so you'd add 1 and 2 to get three, then multiple to get 9.
