I was watching some Japanese coverage and it looked about 50-100 miles to the northeast of the main island.

There was a group from my school on their way to Tokyo, including one of my friends, and their flight turned back over the Pacific and went to Anchorage.

Internet says among the 10 largest recorded earthquakes ever.
