The fact that they haven't released an album in nearly 4 years and Jack White having like 3 other bands never gave you a hint?
It sucks, but it wasn't unexpected.

I didn't think I was being a dick 
Also they didn't break up because of any fights or disputes, they just felt like they should leave a good thing good and not keep trying to continue it knowing they would eventually ruin the name, like most bands do.

i hate when bands do that. Try to keep themselves immortal gods. A lot of bands have cooler songs after their peak  (see beach boys) but for white stripes?
